3. Ultra Miami (Final Kid Films)
Final Kid Films is a film production company based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
They specialise in emotive filmmaking all over the world. They have a large
client base and a very extensive portfolio. The company's most well-known
work is their after movies for the ‘Ultra’ festivals in America, specifically Ultra
Miami. In the video they cover the whole 3-day event. The movies follow
the festival through the day from the people entering the festival to them
listening to music and having fun. There is lots of audience interaction within
the after movie. The festival attendants interact with the camera crew and
dance with each other. This style of filmmaking is used well as it shows how
immersive and interactive the festival is. It shows the festival has an electric
crowd and a good environment that will draw more people to the event in the
future. The music on the stage was shot very well as it had lots of different
angles and movements which makes the music more immersive and makes the
audience feel like they are there. The product is edited in a fast, high paced way
that keep the energy and adrenaline up for the audience.
4. Think Media
Think Media is a video production company based in America. This company mainly specialises in live
video production. They do however make live mixes that they stream to the public. They use a multi
camera setup controlled by a vision mixer. The vision mixer takes all the cameras outputs, puts them in
the system and is controlled by a member of the team. They are responsible for choosing which shot is
going live to the public and mixing the shots. The team also use communications throughout the live
production. The main communication comes from the vision mixer operator and director. They will be
able to contact the camera operators and instruct them on what shots to get. They will also be able to
communicate when they are live on the screen. Communication with the team is also useful if there are
any problems or issues during the production. This could be a technical or physical problem. If there are
coms then the issue can be solved quietly and doesn’t need to disrupt the production. Having the use
of communications would be very important and useful. I will be using communications during the
production of my project. Think Media also have a wireless mobile camera during the production. It is a
Sony A7 lll that is a smaller and better suited camera for handheld work. They use this camera on a
Zhyiun Crane gimbal that is able to keep the footage steady and look sleek. They use a wireless HDMI
transmitter that takes the camera feed and wireless transfers it over top the receiver which is plugged
into the vision mixer. This wireless setup it allows the operator to get more diverse and different shot
types. They are able to get close to the action and get shots that a static or wired camera can not get.
The variety of different shots will also keep the audience entertained and give them plenty of different
angles and shots to watch. I will be using a wireless, roaming camera in my production because it adds
a lot more depth to the production and makes it a lot more professional. It will give me a better variety
of shots and make my product as a whole a lot better.
5. Gass Productions
Gass Productions is a production company based in the UK. They
are a professional leading video production company. They produce
branded content, television series, live outside broadcast and
animation. They work professionally in the industry with a vast
number of high profile clients. The companies website is very easy
to navigate and information is presented in an organised an
informative way. You can find out how the company operates, what
projects they take on and how to enquire about a project. Before
enquiring about a project you will be able to read how they will do
it and what kit they use. Once you have enquired the company will
get back to you as fast as possible. A meeting will then be
scheduled to discuss your vision and how they will make it possible.
I want to handle clients in a similar fashion to this because it is
planned well, you are able to see the client face to face and get
there visions and ideas in mind. The versatility and how informing
there website makes the company stand out and is the reason
there client base is so broad.
7. Venue Research
I want my main location/venue choice to be an opened bricked, well lit
living space. I want this location as it will work well with the artist I am
using. He is a solo artist who sings and plays guitar. His style of music
will work nicely with a warm intimate location as the audience can
enjoy and understand his music. I have researched how I can make this
location work for the production. I can move different pieces of
furniture around to create a space for the artist in front of the feature
wall. I will put up some subtle lights at the top of the wall. I will also put
bulb lights at each side of the artist.
8. Kit Research
I have researched and experimented with lots of different pieces of kit
to expand my knowledge with them. One of the main piece of kit I have
been researching and experimenting with is the Atem Mini Pro. This is
one of the most essential bits of kit I will be using. This is why I have
put time into researching and developing my knowledge as I wanted to
get the most out of this piece of equipment.
9. I used diagrams like this to study each button and each
port. This helped me to easily identify where
everything was and what they all did. This research
gave me time to be able to learn and see all the ports
prior to using this piece of kit. I was then prepared and
ready to use the kit.
I tested and tried the Atem Mini Pro a lot. I did lots of
different tests that helped me cover every type of
video scenario and what I could create with it. I was
able to apply different effects and different techniques
that helped me with my productions throughout the
year.
10. Premiere Pro Off Site Multi Camera editing
Another feature of live video productions are off site edits.
This is when you shoot a video on multiple cameras live at a
venue but then edit all the camera angles off site. I have
done similar work to this before and found editing three or
more camera angles together to be difficult and I could
easily miss a shot. It would also make my edit process a lot
longer. I researched different ways to edit in this style. In
doing this I came across a multi cam feature that was built
into premiere pro. I have watched a few different tutorials
on how to use the feature and the benefits of it. I will be
able to see all cameras and switch them as easy as having a
vision mixer. I will be using this technique in my work as it
speeds up my workflow and allows me to get more done in
a shorter time frame.
