2. How old are you?
• 7 people out of my survey
were aged 16-18 and only 6
were 19-20.
•
• This would then mean that my
articles can’t all be based on
activities such as clubbing as
some aren’t old enough yet.
Therefore, I must include
articles that would be
suitable for 16 year olds to
read and partake in the
activities.
3. What is your gender?
• 9 people who answered my
survey were female but
there were also some
males as well. As a result, I
would like to make my
magazine for both genders.
However, due to the larger
number of females I may
include specific articles for
them and some for men.
4. Are you familiar with EDM?
• 9 people answered yes to
this question which means
that my magazine would
appeal to a large number of
people. However, only 4
people answered no. For
this, I’m going to add some
sections informing new
comers about the genre
and lifestyle as this may
attract more people into
buying my magazine.
5. How many artists do you know?
• The majority of people only
know 0-2 artists which
shows me that I need to
include a variety of people in
my magazine and inform the
readers about them. The
magazine itself would be
based on informing readers
about DJ’s and other gigs so
that they become familiar
with the EDM genre.
6. What would attract you in a music
magazine?
• 6 people said that the free
gifts would attract them
the most in a music
magazine. This tells me
that in my magazine I
should include a free gift
such as a free CD as
this attracts more
people.
7. How much would you be willing to spend
on a music magazine?
• Nearly everyone answered
£1-£2 which shows that
people don’t like spending
a lot if money on
magazines. Therefore, I
will have my magazine
within this price range.
8. Have you ever been clubbing?
• It is almost an equal split
between who has and
hasn’t gone clubbing.
Since my target audience
is 16-18 year olds I’m not
going to focus on articles
to do with clubs too much.
I may include some so that
the older teenagers can
read them.
9. Do you still go clubbing?
• Half the people who
answered the question said
they still go clubbing. This
tells me that I could include
articles on new clubs and
upcoming gigs as this would
appeal to those who still go
clubbing and are 18.
However, for the other half I
could include things that act
as an alternative, such as a
house party (with parent’s
supervision).
10. How often do you go clubbing?
• Those who answered yes to
the previous question
mostly go clubbing once a
week. This shows that they
know a variety of clubs and
that they are familiar with
what happens and the best
places to go. However, 5
out of 11 people said that
they never go clubbing.
This also reinforces the
fact that I shouldn’t include
many articles on clubbing
and focus on alternatives
instead.
11. conclusion
So far, with the research I have done:
• My target audience is aged 16-18 and are male and
female.
• They are familiar with the genre but only know a small
amount of artists.
• They are attracted to the free gifts in magazines and
wouldn’t pay a lot of money to buy one.
• Some previously gone clubbing and still do. However
most of them haven’t been clubbing before.
• Those who still do go clubbing mainly go either once a
week or once a month.
12. From my research:
I have gathered ideas on what I should and shouldn’t put in my
magazine:
Should:
• Free gift (most likely a CD)
• General articles (for example, a top 20 artists article. One or two
articles on clubbing for those that are older)
• Relevant and appropriate content specifically for the minimum
age of 16.
•
Shouldn’t
• Include too many new names as people would be very
unfamiliar.
• Too club focused.
