2. What is your name?
I created two surveys on Survey Monkey, approximately 15 people answered each. Here is the first question from one of my surveys, ‘What is
your name?’. Here I only show a small proportion of the results. I then used excel to input the data into a pie chart. We can see by the
diagram that a large proportion of the readers are called Jess. In addition to this we can summarize that only a very small proportion are
male, with the name ‘Matt’. Meaning that my targeted research meets my target audience criteria of a mainly female audience.
3. How old are
you?
The results show that the largest proportion of
readers are aged 18-25 which is my main target
audience group. The percentage is 66.67% in
comparison to the 14-17 category and the 30+
category at 16.67%.
This is going to allow me to target the majority of
my adverts at teenagers and young adults. Also I can
tailor the contents of my magazine to this age group,
including adverts on perhaps universities and their
social aspects such as club nights and major
festivals.
4. Do you live with your parents or alone?
This question allowed me to gain a clearer insight
into my audience and their background. The
questions aim was to assist the NRS social grade
question shown further on. By asking this question
I am then able to assess the income of the readers.
Being as the majority live at home with parents,
this means that their income may be slightly higher
due to the aid of their guardians. Therefore on the
other hand the 16.67% that live alone support
themselves, which in turn could mean it may be a
little more difficult for them to afford the magazine
weekly as they have other priorities. This type of
question, based on the results allows me to
customize my pricing methods based on the
5. If you live with your parents, which category do their jobs fall into,
if you live alone what category does your job fall into?
The results from this question show that a high proportion of
readers measured come from an ABC1 background, which
suggests they have a reasonably high income, in turn meaning
they may have more disposable income and furthermore, a
higher purchasing power.
This means that I am able to market my magazine at the
original price- weekly.
6. Where are you living at present?
The results from the question ‘Where are you living at present?’, show that the majority of readers interview are
from York. Therefore if any external advertising was to be done I would target the majority of it in and around York.
The smallest percentage of people interviewed are from Leeds and the other percentage from Harrogate.
My magazine will be sold across England, however, I will be targeting these areas the most. Harrogate particularly
is one of the wealthiest districts in Yorkshire, therefore the purchasing power of its residents is going to be
significantly higher than perhaps other regions.
7. Do you have a
job?
This question was aimed to find out the percentage
of readers that are in work, whether it be full-time or
part-time. By the results shown it is evident that
100% of readers questioned are employed, with
66.67% working full time and 33.33% working parttime. These results could be analysed to imply that
the 33.33% are students with the possibility of
progressing onto full-time work.
Therefore this may also allow me to target
advertisements accordingly, with a section
throughout the magazine on jobs available within the
music industry.
8. Do you use the internet and social media a
lot?
Although I am working in the print based medium, the
chance of expansion onto the internet is possible
dependant on the overall popularity of the magazine. This
in turn means that the magazine could be taken viral with
an online website and social media marketing.
Moreover, a full 100% answered yes to the question,
meaning that I also have the ability to market my magazine
using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. In
addition applications and software could be developed in
progression of the project.
9. If you have a job
what is your current
role?
This question relates closely to the NRS social
grade one as listed above. By questioning the
jobs of the readers I am then able to analyse and
process which boundary they fall into. For
example the managerial jobs suggest that the
readers questioned fall into the ABC1 category.
In turn meaning I am able to target my magazine
at an audience from a higher social class
background, which allows me flexibility in
relation to the price.
10. Here, none of the subjects answered no, meaning the idea
of a music magazine is favourable. This answer combined
with the gender breakdown and favourite genre study,
allows me to form the basic structure of my magazine,
working in favour of my target audience. This also shows
that all advertisements should be very music orientated.
11. These type of questions allow me
to specifically target my audience
when considering adverts. In
addition I can tailor the contents
of the magazine around these
subjects. For example a larger
proportion of readers asked
prefer rock music over R&B.
Therefore it would be beneficial
to include some female rock
artists alongside pop/dance
artists.
Which type of
night out do you
prefer?
12. The first question asking which is the preferred music streamer was a targeted marketing
question. By asking this I can now analyse the results and make recommendations throughout
the magazine.
By asking if the adverts in music magazines were helpful I am then able to assess their
importance which will help me to determine the number and proportion of adverts within the
magazine. The majority answered yes however a number of people still answered no, which
shows that although their importance is ample, they aren't necessarily vital in large quantities.
The final question was an open question, allowing for further expansion within the answers. The
most evident answer here is the tour dates and up coming gigs, which is why I have decided to
allow two pages within the magazine for festival, gig and tour dates for the current year and
next.
13. How often do
you read
magazines?
By asking how often they read
magazines I am able to see whether
it would be more beneficial to
market my magazine weekly or
monthly, the majority voted for
moderately often which made me
consider whether it may be better to
sell fortnightly however, I am going
to stick with weekly, each issue
coming out on the first day of the
week (Monday).
