Previously we discussed War Communism, we
defined war communism as policies, particularly
economic, pursued by the Bolsheviks during the
Civil War in response to the ideological and
pragmatic demands of consolidating power.
3. What is a five year plan?
A Five year plan is a personal or professional list of goals that you want to
achieve in the next five years.
Stalins five year plans were method of planning economic growth over
limited periods, through the use of quotas used first in the Soviet Union
Stalin implemented three plans for five years. The primary goal of the
plan was to turn the Soviet Union from a mostly agricultural into an
industrialized country.
4. The first five- year plan
Agriculture increased- Stalin expropriated the land of the
wealthy farmers and turned them into massive collective
farms.

Some farmers resisted collectivisation of their farms, so
Stallin would punish them and raise the quotas
Peasants were not able to meet the quotas they only got
to keep the small amount of the grain they produced, that
caused people to die from starvation
5. New cities
Stalin knew he needed to develop the countries industrial
sector fast. He then created new cities in many areas.
Specialist from western countries were brought in to
teach the engineers the latest production in factories

Further improvements were made in
communications especially in railways
which became faster and reliable.
