2. ๏ We looked into many age groups that we could
specifically aim our media product at. We looked at the
age ratings of 12A, 12, 15, 18 and also PG. The main
focus was on the two age ratings of 12 and 15. It was
difficult to choose which one. However, at the end we
chose to choose the age rating of 15 and over, this
means our film may contain strong violence and
frequent strong language. We really wanted to aim our
media product at teenagers between the ages of 15-21,
as they would be able to understand the whole concept
of the film and enjoy as the suspense and the tension
builds up throughout.
3. ๏ For our target audience, based on our audience survey,
we got the impression that the audience wanted to see
both females and males in our media product, as they did
not just want to see one gender dominate the whole
media product. This also made us realise that due to this
factor, our media product should be aimed at both
females and males, especially as our media product is a
teen horror.
๏ Therefore, based on this we decided that our media
product should be specifically aimed at teenagers
between the ages of 15-21, as this would be the most
suitable. Also, we took into consideration that we didnโt
want to create a media product that was just representing
one gender, we wanted to show both genders and
represents teenagers in a positive way.
4. ๏ As our media product is representing both male and
female teenagers aged between the years 15-21. We
decided to make sure that we were able to represent
them well. This meant making them wear the clothes
teenagers would wear such as casual clothes and
nothing over the top, This is why we asked the
protagonists (group of teenagers) to wear clothes such
as; jeans, hoodies, casual tops and trainers or boots. This is
something that would represent teenagers in general as
they do not like to dress up if they are going down the
park, they tend to wear casual clothes. This relates to
how most teenagers would act between the age 15-21,
therefore our media product does represent social
groups.
5. ๏ According to the setting of our media product which is a
park, which contains many chase scenes. The audience
would be able to connotate that there is something bad
going to happen. Also due to the way the group of
teenagers (protagonists) are dressed and also the way they
are shown altogether, does signify to the audience that these
group of teenagers are not a bad influence to be around.
However, the audience would be able to connotate straight
away that the antagonist is a very bad influence to be
around due to way he is dressed and also his body language.
Therefore our media product represents two types of social
groups, teenagers that have no intention to cause chaos and
stay safe and the other group that teenager is after to cause
trouble.
6. ๏ By looking at our opening sequence, our actors all
Asian, our ethnicity for our media product were all
Asians, this is not something we had considered at the
beginning of the research and planning, as we were just
mainly looking for good actors that would suit in our
media product. However. If we do look back at our
media product, it does stand out as we have one
specific social group that consists of all teenage Asians
rather than there being a mix of different types of
ethnicities. Therefore, our media product may represent
more of Asian teenagers, as the opening sequence has
Asian actors. However, our media product is aimed at
all ethnicities, we have not aimed our media product
only at one ethnicity, so every teen of every ethnicity
should be able to watch the media product.
7. ๏ From looking at our media product, we have
represented our actors very differently compared to
normal horror films. We chose to do this because we
did not want the female to be the victim as this is
conventional in MOST films. Therefore we wanted to
change this and make the male protagonist look
weak and less superior as this is not something you
would see everyday. In addition, we made the
female protagonist look strong and dominant as she
was able to escape from the protagonist an get
away from the antagonist without getting hurt and
without a male having to step in to help the female
protagonist. Therefore, we have represented both
females and males in opposite ways in our media
product, to show that females can be independent.
8. ๏ The actors we chose, we chose for a reason. WE had to
choose according to the skills of an actor, experience of
acting they may have had and also the looks of the actor.
We had to focus on the looks of the characters too because
they way the characters looked matters as well. We chose
the male protagonist (Vishal) as the victim, because he is
quite skinny which would make it appealing if he was the
victim, because the audience would be able to tell that
due to the way he looked it would make sense why he was
defeated by the antagonist because he was shown as
being weak and innocent. While if we look at the antagonist
(Krishan) we can tell that he is the evil person because he
looks quite strong and tough and would be able to defend
himself. However, we are not shown the identity of the
antagonist in the opening sequence because it is kept as a
secret. Although the way a character looks is important
when representing your media product.
