1. How did you attract/address your audience?
Once we had successfully determined who would be our target audience, we started to
think about how we would attract this people and make them want to watch our film.
We determined our audience from who normally watches romantic comedies and then
making sure we had the conventions of rom-coms present in our opening sequence,
such as hearts, catchy, light hearted fun music in the background etc.
The actors we used, we think will make the audience appeal to our film more. This is
because it is very relatable. For example, the characters we used are 17 years old and
are both teenagers girls. They are the complete opposite of each other, one is into boys,
sex, make up, smoking etc and the other girl is into books, scouts, health, opera etc. This
means they are binary opposites. This means that every girl will relate to at least one of
these girls or will be in the middle of them so they will have something in common
somewhere in the film. This is good for our viewers because our target audience is in
this age bracket and will therefore find it interesting to watch if it is similar to their lives.
Everyone loves a bit of romance so therefore we know we will get people to watch it,
especially young people who are looking for boyfriends/girlfriends rather than the older
people who are already married. You immediately know our film is a romantic from the
first few seconds. And you also know it is going to be a comedy as you can tell from the
‘good girl’ who people may see as being a nerd.
2. We used our props a lot as this was mainly what we were working from. On the pin
board for the good girl we put everything that this teenage girl likes, from cigarettes to
make up to boyfriends etc. And on the pin board for the bad girl we put stuff from
health foods to scouts badges to opera tickets etc. Without props we would have no
opening title sequence so this was VERY important, especially as it comes under mise-
en-scene. The use of these props immediately makes the viewer know about the girls
before even seeing them.
We also used special effects, such as green screen, which makes audiences
automatically more attracted as they think it is something more interesting and
different to the normal rom-com they watch.
