2. GUIDANCE
Remember, you can add as much as you like to this plan â Iâd
say itâs pretty much a given!
Donât forget to convey ideas through visuals as well as
through your written plans and documents.
Delete the tutor written prompts where necessary
Final sequence(s) saved must be in 1920x1080 25fps .MOV
Export for YouTube in 1080x720 25fps .MP4
4. 1. IDENT PACKAGE
⢠This section is where you will be planning your overall
ident âpackageâ
⢠This should include all design docs for your idents (min. 3
for the package)
⢠You should ensure that your package has a consistency of
design, font, colour, tone, etc
⢠Consider giving you ident package a working title, try and
use a title that defines your concept
5. CONCEPT
Summarise your concept in a single statement, how does it
fit the audience and best represent the channel type you are
working on? You could add in visual aids to fully express
this.
My concept of my ident, is a scene that focuses on 4 main sports that are shown
in the Grid sports channel. Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Boxing. There will
be a close up of the objects with a slow motion effects. Each scene will show a
sports player picking up the item e.g. football. The background will be dark and
cinematic. It will show sweat on the actors and have an abstract sound with the
tension building up. Each scene will transition smoothly to the 4 different sports
and location, 4 different moments in a story. The scenes will create a short
montage.
This will fit my audience because the ident will focus on the most popular sports
that the audience enjoy. It will represent what kind of channel we are and inform
our quality of the programs.
6. LOGO DESIGN
Show your plans for the logo, as a minimum:
⢠intended animations [you could show a test using frame animation in Photoshop for example]
⢠how the logo looks in different colours
⢠Mock ups using still frames from TV programmes
9. SOUND DESIGN
What are sound design plans? How do you intend to create
these? Include some tests.
I am hoping to find some royalty free cinematic sound effects for
my ident. I will have a mix of cinematic and ambient sounds.
My main sounds I would like to use are;
Basket Ball Bounce
Crowd Cheering
A football being kicked sound
Basketball sneaker floor sound
Boxing sound effect

10. MOTION GRAPHICS AND
COMPOSITING TECHNIQUES
Explain the techniques you are using in your idents â you MUST
include a motion track, composite shots using at least some
original filmed footage and animated graphics [logo and/or text]
The techniques I will be using is a mix of motion graphics and composite
shots.
My ident will be mostly film in footage but there will be some after effects
aspects to my ident.
For my stadium shot I want to have a bright effect, I will do this by adding a
glow effect and lens flare tool on Adobe after effects.
Also with my stadium I'm going to matte my footage of the grass to contrast a
background of the crowd and a night sky.
I would also like to add some rain effect to the shot to make the scene more
dramatic and impressive.
My logo is also going to have some motion graphic animation with a glow
effect and the text showing some animated movement.
11. IDENT 1
Include:
⢠Simple storyboard
⢠Photoshop mock up
⢠Notes on sound, animation and design decision
⢠You may need to add further slides
16. IDENT 2
Include:

26. FINAL IDENT TO
PRODUCE
Which ident are you going to move to production? Why have you chosen
this one? Consider viability, techniques, costs, etc?
The ident I am going to choose to make is ident idea 2. I really like the idea of text as the
main key of the ident. The viewer will focus on the text and the sports images. Compared to
my other ideas, ident 2 has a more effective and artistic look.
The other ident is more simple and familiar, its nice to see something different and creative.
Ident 2 is going to have a lot after effects done with the text being blended with footage. The
filming will be simple to shoot as its only focus on one camera angle in each sports.
Ident 2 will also require some production cost with buying props for the scenes such as a
football and basketball. Its going to have some difficult elements with the motion graphics
but altogether it shouldn't be to hard create.
The other 2 ident will be easier to do but this one will look better and look like an a official
sports ident for an existing channel.

31. SOUND PLANNING
My ident will have some background music that I have
created. It is a simple repeating tune that sounds uplifting
and positive. It will sync with the text in each beat to build up
the excitement.
The sounds I will use are royalty free sound effects, most
sounds of incident noises which would relate to the footage.
E.g.. A foot kicking a ball.
I will also add some atmospheric sound effect to give an epic
cinematic feel.
This is an example of
what kind of background
music, my ident will
sound like which I
created on the
keyboard.
32. TIMESCALE
The timescale for my production of creating my ident will take me a few
weeks all together.
Filming the ident will take me at least two days. The filming aspect is the
shortest part of the production because most of the location are in campus
and the time length of the scene are short.
The editing aspect for the ident will take me at least a week, half of the
editing will be importing the footage, syncing the audio, adding the colour
grain and contrast, putting the sound effects and making sure all scenes
have no bad cuts
I am going to compose my own instrumental music, recording my music
will add me another day. I have to make sure the music is on point and
quality and not out of tune. I will be making my music by using Garageband
and duplicating my tune with different instruments which would take an
hour of my production day.
The last part of my production is adding the after effects. This part of
editing will likely take me 4 days to edit. I am going to be adding some
motion graphics that require frame keying like the glow and lens flare
effect and matte painting the backgrounds which I am going to edit on
Photoshop.

41. 3. PRODUCTION LOG
In this section track your production, the decisions made and
the process of your work
Each slide has a heading and specific area to cover
42. 3. PRODUCTION LOG
METHODS OF PRODUCTION
What methods of production have you used â e.g. motion tracking, green screen, compositing, etc
Remember, you must include motion tracking, parallax/motion graphics, composited shots in your
sequence
For my ident I have used a lot of green screen composting, especially on my text
and logo, I wanted to make something different and unique. I created this by
inserting a text on Adobe Photoshop, adding a green colour to my text, inserted
the text on Adobe Premiere and then I used the ultra key to get rid of the green
colour and then inserted the video on the top layer.
I have also used masking to create the Lens flare effect, I did this effect mostly on
Adobe After Effects, I originally created a light rays background for my text, I didn't
add this in the final production as I thought the black background made the text
easier to read. I created the light rays using automation on the timeline and
brought the masking effect in and out. I also did the same with the lens flare effect.
43. 3. PRODUCTION LOG
SOFTWARE & FILE MANAGEMENT
Which software have you used and how have you managed
your files
List specific types of files formats chosen [mov, aac, etc] and
why â consider working docs and export docs
The software I used to create my ident was mainly Adobe Premier
however I also used Adobe After Effects to create the motion
graphics and Adobe Photoshop to create the text. I managed my
files by having all the scenes, backgrounds and text to be in a
separate folder. The file format I used are Mp4 for the main video,
the reason for this is to have my video exported in a decent
quality but not as a large file. Mp4a for the music, PNG for the
text images.
44. 3. PRODUCTION LOG
QUALITY CONTROL
How have you gone about maintaining a high quality product
through your process and production?
To ensure my ident is a high quality product, I began by researching other
existing sports idents such as Sky Sports for inspiration and quality effects.
I explored various effects like sounds, music, use of colour and images. Sky
Sports TV Idents are usually cinematic, I used this theme in my ident because
it gives that professional effect.
I have researched other sports channels demographics In relation to their
target audience. This had help me to find what is currently trending so my use
of images, colour and music are current and look professional.
45. 3. PRODUCTION LOG
TIME MANAGEMENT
Explain your process and how you have managed your time
effectively
When filming my Ident, I managed my time by creating a shot list of all the
scenes and sequences that I needed to film, I also planned a time schedule of
all the days I will be filming and editing. The schedule helped me a lot with my
time management and kept me focused on not delaying my self during
production.
I originally planned to film other locations with the different sports but due to
timing I could only focus on one sport. This worked better in the end for me as
it gave me more time to edit the project.
Some scenes took longer than expected for example when filming the football
players, I had no control of directing them as it was a live moment and in
class. I had to wait for a perfect opportunity to film a perfect shot. I had also
filmed a lot of alternative scenes which delayed bit of my time. The reason for
the alternative shots was in case if I would need to use them in the final cut.
46. 3. PRODUCTION LOG
FITNESS FOR PURPOSE
How does your ident package match up to professional productions?
Compare/contrast against similar channels. How does your work compare?
What works/doesnât work/how could you improve it?
From researching other TV idents gave me the opportunity to find what makes a
professional ident. Using all these concepts most sports channels are generally
similar in that they mostly have epic cinematic sound effects and best moments of
the program game. With my ident I have used a lot of inspiration from the Sky
Sports 1 Ident 2014 e.g. the tone, the epic theme, the tension of the sounds and
the hue and saturation.
My Ident starts quiet, an empty atmosphere, I build the tension up by having the
music to play on a quiet loop but gets louder by each second. Compared to the
Sky Sports 1 Ident, the music also has a piano tune but only focuses on one
sequence which is the crowd. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooMNSndbmI8

47. 3. PRODUCTION LOG
FITNESS FOR PURPOSE
How does your ident package match up to professional productions? Compare/contrast
against similar channels. How does your work compare? What works/doesnât work/how
could you improve it?
A lot of existing sports Idents use motion graphics and their themes are very experimental. For
my ident I wanted to use that idea of experimenting with effects rather than having a basic
video. I experimented with different text ideas for my ident, and having scenes inside the
letters looked really effective. The style of my video is similar to the Fox Sports ident, in which
their key focus is using visual effects with their logo.
Compared with my ident, our concepts are very similar, both our concepts are having our
letters being transformed into a logo, The Fox Sports looks more 3d animated but mine is
mainly live action. I think with my ident I could have used more effects to keep it looking more
professional like the Fox Sports ident. The Fox Sports Ident have some very fast and intriguing
camera movement, I think I could experiment bit more with my ident e.g. adding some parallax
with the text and other shots.

FITNESS FOR PURPOSE
How does your ident package match up to professional productions?
Compare/contrast against similar channels. How does your work compare?
What works/doesnât work/how could you improve it?
I think the quality of my ident overall is good but there are still
improvements I can make to make the video look professional standard.
Examples like shorter cuts, having the camera stable, better focus, more
effects. In my original concept I was going to focus on different sports,
due to timing and actors so I change to one.
I could have added some cutaways with different sports so the channel
reflected the most popular programs like the existing ident.
49. 3. PRODUCTION LOG
LEGAL & ETHICAL
What legal and ethical considerations have you had to
consider in your ident package? How have you worked with
these to maintain your product
The legal and ethical consideration I had for my project were to
use royalty free sound effects and also to create my own music to
avoid any copyright issues.
I have obtained permission from the coach and students to be
filmed and permission to use the location.
My Ident was focusing on the sport rather than the people in my
video but I tried to be inclusive by having a variety of different
people from different backgrounds and race in the footage.
