2. Distributors
❖ Distributors such as Film 4 and Warner Bros. are
responsible from taking the film from production to the
consumers, though marketing and exhibition of the film.
They usually distribute the film either to a tent pole
audience or a smaller, local audience. This is dependent
on the films content, a larger budget film usually has a
higher appeal for a tent pole audience as they can
attract big name actors, directors and quality special
effects.
3. Warner Bros.
❖ First established in 1923, Warner bros
is one of the big 6 production
companies in Hollywood and is
renowned for produced and distributed
big films and franchises such as
Christopher Nolans Dark Knight
Trilogy and the Harry Potter series.
They make over $12bn a year from
their movies. With a reputation for big
films, we do not believe that Warner
bros is suited to distribute our film as it
is a small independent film with a
smaller budget, with a limited appeal
for a tent pole audience.
4. Disney
❖ First established in 1953 Walt
Disney studios produce,
distributes and markets some of
the world biggest films. With
subsidiaries such a Marvel and
Lucasfilm, Disney dominate the
film industry. They specialise is
fantasy films and family films.
Therefore with the dark tone of
our film, 15 rating and low budget
we believe that Disney or it’s
subsidiaries are suited to
distribute our film.
5. Film4
❖ Film4 was launched in 1982
and is a British film production
company, they specialise in
British films. They make mid-
budget films, and their films
rarely target tentpole
audiences. With Film4 being
rather supportive of the British
film industry we feel they would
be an acceptable company to
distribute our film.
6. Microwave
❖ Funded by the BFI and BBC films Microwave
is a scheme set up by Film London. They help
produce and distribute independent films by
offering up to £25,000 to these films to help
them be distributed or produced. This would
be a viable option to distribute our film as it
has a low budget and is not targeted a tent
pole audience, the smaller investment and
release will be beneficial to our film. Some
example of their films have gone on to be very
successful in the film industry; One example
is Manors that had a budget of £100,000 and
went on to make over £400,000 at the UK box
office. Manors was a British crime thriller has
was targeted at a local audience, similar to
our film.
7. Conclusion
❖ To conclude, Film4 and
Microwave are the most viable
options for the distribution of
our film. This is because they
are not aimed at tent pole
audiences and both a
successful history of investing
in lower budget independent
films.
