• What kind of media institution might distribute your film and why?
• There are many media institutes around the globe which can be part
of both the production and distribution phases of a movie/film.
Companies such as Warner Bros, Universal, Colombia, Paramount and
20th Century Fox are the main, large American companies that
distribute movies/films from big blockbusters too lower budgeted
movies.

I believe that a lower/smaller
company would distribute my
movie/film because it is a low
budget production with a good plot
twist and interesting characters.
Additionally, a company such as
Warp Films is more likely to
distribute my movie/film as their
ideology is too fund grassroots,
cultural films/movies.

A big production company is less
likely to focus on smaller projects as
their aim is to make money. They look
at making films/movies that have a
vast target audience to bring in huge
mounts of profit e.g. Time Warner
and Gravity. This movie had a small
budget for a blockbuster and made
almost 7x the original budget in
global profit.

“ The Working Title philosophy has always been
to make films for an audience - by that I mean
play in a multiplex. We totally believe in this
because we know it is the only hope we have of
sustaining the UK film industry. ”
7. What kind of media institution might
distribute your film and why?
• Out of the 2 production/distribution companies above my film would fit best into
Warp Films, this is because they are a small company investing in low budget
films/movies as they are culturally appropriate to a small audience. A good
example of a reasonably low budget horror movie is ’28 Days Later’, this Danni
Boyle movie is a British Horror movie and was very successful due to having a
great story and characters. This is were I feel my film will fit into and is very
similar in that regard. Additionally, if we look at other low budget films such as
‘Shifty’ and ‘This is England’ we can see that low budget films/movies can be
distributed and be successful.
• This leads me to then talk about my target audience, as stated in my research, my
target audience will be predominantly male between the ages of 18 and 25. This
is a small target range and is very specific, another reason I would choose a small
production company. This type of film is common within the horror genre
however has always lacked a developed story, this is where I feel I can take up the
mantle and add in an interesting plot whilst still remaining true to the genre itself.
Finally, we see that this makes it a niche type of film within a mass market.
