2. Classification
❖ Firstly to establish a basis for the target audience we needed to classify our film. We
decided to classify our film as 15. This is due to the fact it focuses around an abduction
and will continue to focus on these darker themes such as violence and crime. The criteria
of a 15 film is frequent swearing, sexual activity, verbal references to sex, references to
drugs and use of drugs.
3. The BBFC
❖ The BBFC, British board of film
classification is a non government
run, independent organisation
founded in 1912 who classify films.
And from 1984 classify videos and
DVD’s. They use their own
guidelines to regulate and classify
films in the UK. Their aim is to
prevent harmful, disturbing or
offensive content to be shown to
the wrong consumers. As well as to
help viewers make an informed
decision when buying or choosing
to view a film.
4. Our target audience
❖ Our film would most likely be classified because of it’s criminal
aspect and dark tone. During our research we found that males
predominately rated crime/thriller films higher. The audience
pleasures for men are usually suspense and thrill, we also found
this trend with people aged from 18-25, therefor our target
audience is males aged 18-25 as they are familiar with this genre
and it gives them pleasure.
❖ Our secondary target audience would be both males and
females of this age group, as females like a challenge in their
viewing e.g. working a narrative out.
❖ Although our films appeals to both genders, we feel that males
aged 18-25 is our main target audience.
