Target Audience for our film

1. Target Audience
As our chosen genre is crime/thriller, we will have to take into account
the target audience of each separate genre and come up with an
audience specifically for our film based on age and gender.

2. Thriller Target Audience
AGE:
• A lot of thriller movies do have graphic content such as violence, gore or drug use, and some
are based around serious topics that may not be suitable for younger viewers.
• The main characters in thriller movies are roughly between ages 30-40, so would probably
attract an audience within that age group, however the suspense and mystery of the films
would probably interest young adults who will find them exciting.
• Based on the average BBFC rating of 15 for a thriller movie, but I do think that the target
audience would be higher than this age because of the serious topics such as mental health
which people of this age may not be able to understand fully or maturely.
• The popular thriller movies I looked at here are all rated 15:
GENDER:
• Both males and females would find thriller movies appealing as (stereotypically) males might
be drawn to the action, and females to the suspense and emotion.
• However, because most of the main characters in the movies here are male, this might be the
more dominant gender of this genre, suggesting the target audience is more focused on men
than on women.

3. Crime Target Audience
AGE:
• Most crime movies I researched, being based around heavy violence and drug use, on average were rated higher than
thrillers, such as the ones shown here which all have an 18 BBFC rating:
• The topics of the movies such as drugs, guns and criminals would be enjoyed more by young adults as it is more relevant
to youth culture and young life than older viewers, therefore I would say the target age audience would be older
teenagers (17-19) to young adults (20-30).
GENDER:
• Similar to thrillers, I feel like the crime movies I’ve looked at have been more aimed at males, due to the content being
based around violence and deviance and because statistically, in the real world most crime is committed by males. Also
due to most of the characters being men, and the women being given mostly sexualised roles, this would tend to attract a
more male dominated audience.

4. ‘Inquisition’ Target Audience (Crime Thriller)
Following the research I have done on the audiences of both genres,
the target audience we have decided on for our movie is young adults,
both men and women, but more specifically men, between the ages of
15-30.
Because our characters are a young couple of middle class, we think
this an appropriate target audience.
