1. The distributors we will be using for our psychological thriller are independent
distributors rather than studios. The reason being is that independent studios are more
likely to fund and advertise independent film maker’s as they use a smaller budget.
Studios on the other hand, tend to distribute films globally with a larger budget from
established companies. Such as, Warner Bros, Universal and 21st century fox. Studios
would only distribute independent films if the independent film companies work
alongside them. An example of this is working title who work with universal studios who
take 67% of the shares.
2. An independent distributor that we
think will be interested with our
psychological thriller is Revolver
entertainment.
Revolver entertainment has offices
in London and Los Angeles and has
been awarded as one of the top 10
marketing companies.
Revolver entertainment is a more
established independent company
who thrive off the production from
independent film makers.
Independent distributors are more
likely to distribute their films to the
UK or Europe if their budget isn’t
too small.
Revolver entertainment
distributed films such as, kidult
hood, adult hood and a
Anuva hood.
These films have a similar
target audience to ours as
kidult hood appeal to a
younger audience of 15 and
over, adult hood has a target
audience of over 18 and Anuva
hood from 15 and over.
Our target audience are
preferably people over the age
of 15; if they are younger they
should be supervised by an
adult. However, the age for our
thriller is 15-24 year olds.
3. Our target audience for our
psychological thriller are those
who are between 15 and 24 years
old. We chose this age range
because our protagonist in our
thriller is 17 years old and is
currently studying her a-levels at
college.
We extended the age range to those who are
up to 24 years old because we believe that the
issues that we will be portraying are harder to
understand by those who are younger, also, we
do reference to scenarios that are more
apparent in young adults.
4. Our thriller does not have a target gender as
per usual as we wanted our thriller to be more
versatile. As, usually the main gender for
thrillers are males as they are more likely to be
associated with a violent nature and females
are less likely to engage in a film where the
main character who is a female is being
brutally murdered.
Our thriller is psychological so there are
minimal references to violence which we
believe would make the film more successful
over a wider audience.
5. Our thriller will appeal to the middle/ working
class as they are more likely to be associated
with the cinemas and other general interests
that are affordable. The middle/working class
are more likely to purchase a cinema ticket and
watch a film in the cinemas than the upper
class. Those within the upper class are
associated with ballet, theatre and horse riding
as they can afford to spend more on
entertainment also, engaging in those
entertainment’s show their wealth and class.
6. My group and I would like to think that our
thriller appeals to all people of all ethnicities as
we try to capture that through our characters.
The protagonist (played by myself) is a Black
British/ Caribbean which could draw in those
who are of black decent. However, our other
character (protagonist friend) is played by an
Asian British boy who would draw in those of
Asian descent. We film one of our scenes in Costa; this allows
us to include many people who are not just
white British but from other back grounds and
cultures, as Costa is so well known.
7. Our thriller would
generally appeal to
heterosexuals due to
aspects of our thriller
where we portray a
heterosexual
relationship and a love
interest of the opposite
sex. This does not mean
that our film would not
appeal to those of a
homosexual sexuality.
The type of audience
that would be
interested in our
psychological thriller
would be those who are
teenagers and young
adults. The type of
things they would be
engaging in would be a
form of education, work
or training. They may
socialise on the week-
ends this could be
when they go and
watch our thriller.
