DETECTIVE OLSEN – WHO WOULD BE
THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
AUDIENCE - GENDER
There is a large range of people, both male and female that like Crime films, however as I am creating a
Crime Thriller opening sequence I will need to take into consideration the target audience to whom watch
Thriller films not only Crime films. I will then combine the two together to create a target audience of my
own. Both males and females usually enjoy Thrillers such as ‘Taken’.
During the research phase, one of the questions
in the survey I distributed asked what gender
you are. The results show that there are more
males than females that are interested in the
movie genre Thriller and Crime combined.
It can be said that males are more interested in crime
films than woman are due to the violence.
AUDIENCE - AGE
I have decide to have 16 – 19 year olds as my target audience
as this age range is quite wide and according to the results in
my survey, they enjoy the Thriller / Crime genre combined.
My audience will need to be interested in both Crime and
Thriller films to enjoy Crime Thrillers. Stereotypically people
who like crime films, also like thrillers. Furthermore, one of
the characters in the our opening sequence is also a teenager.
THRILLER FILMS TARGET AUDIENCE
• Thriller films interest young adults as they find the plots
interesting, they like feeling the suspense and mystery.
• Thriller films are usually certificated 15 due to the content of the
film being violent and frightening
• Most thrillers appeal to 15-40 year olds.
• Thrillers also appeal to both females and males. Males are
interested in thrillers due to the action as they like to see
something that gets their heart beating, and females are usually
attracted to thriller because they like to watch something that
raises questions in their heads, wondering what will happen next.
CRIME FILMS TARGET AUDIENCE
• Crime Films target audience are usually aimed at males rather than
females.
• According to real world research, males are more criminogenic.
They would be more interested to watch crime and violence rather
than woman who tend to be more on the calm, gentle side.
• The certificate is usually 15 therefore that is where the target
audience age range begins from. This number goes up to age 30.
• So Crime Drama target audiences are mostly males aged 15-30
years old.
CONCLUSION
The primary target audience will be, both female and males aged between 15 –
30 years old as i think this is the target audience for crime thriller films
combined.
The secondary target audience will be 20+ year old male or females who like
action / Thriller films.
The third target audience will be couples who would like to watch a film on a
night out together.
