From the research I discovered males enjoy thrillers more
than females. This is because the action, excitement, and
suspense is more appealing to males. however there are
some females who stated that they are interested by the
puzzling and questioning the film imposes in their minds.
Most thriller films are rated 15, therefore the typical
audience for thriller films starts at 15. The appeal of
action, excitement and suspense generally dips at around
the ages of 29+.

5. S O C I A L R E A L I S T
Social realist films generally feature dark themes and
therefore appeal to an older audience. Females are
generally more interested in the internal story within the
characters mind whereas men are enticed by the violence
and tension. Therefore the typical audience for a social
realist film is males and females aged 30-40. There is a
lesser audience for social realist films as they are usually
made on a low budget, therefore their marketing does not
reach a large group of people.

6. C R I M E D R A M A
• From my research I discovered that crime drama is
appealing to a wide range of audiences. With TV
shows such as Breaking Bad and Broadchurch being
very popular at the moment, crime drama appeals to
many people. I would estimate that the most common
audience that watch crime dramas are Males and
Females aged 15-40.

• Being a thriller with elements of crime, mystery and social realism my film
should bring in some audiences who enjoy any one of these.
• The age rating for the film is likely to be a 15 therefore this is where my
audience age range begins.
• With a teenager as the main character, teenagers should want to watch this film
as it will relate to them.
• The crime drama element brings in a lot of audiences. However this films is
about a teenager, therefore the audience it pulls in is likely to be younger
therefore the age range stops at 30.
• The social realist genre brings in older audiences, however from the research it
seemed evident that people were not as interested in this theme as the others.
