2. Cooking On A Budget
Original Idea
In South London, Moe goes out and explores the life of young adults, which are either; going university, living on their own
or struggling to get money to afford a home meal. Moe will explore what’s really cheap, healthy and recommended for you.
He will be interviewing food writer and journalist and chef Rose Prince and her views on what she thinks is really happening
and why it’s more expensive now a days to make a healthy meal, compared to a simple fast food meal.
New Idea
In South London, Moe’s hosts an epic cooking battle between two young adults chiefs to see who is the king of producing
the cheapest healthiest meal of all time, with special guest Rose Prince giving you the audience and the competitors advice
on how to produce a cheap healthy meal without any stress.
3. Content & Duration
I will be filming in various areas such as Rose Prince’s house/Kitchen, Ryan and Justin’s house/Kitchen and possibly my house. I will
also be filming in a cheap vegetable and meat market that I highly recommend and shop in myself.
There will be various shot types to express the competitive and friendly side of this documentary such as; Mid shot, POV, Close
Mid Shot, Long shot.
The documentary will be informal and possibly have some funny bits during the documentary of the competitors ‘Pumping’
themselves up saying ‘you know what they call me in the kitchen Ryan Ramsey’ etc just a little bit of ‘banter’ as my viewers
are teenagers/young adults and it’ll get them more interested in the documentary.
From research that I have done I found out that the audience want to see a presenter in the documentary as it will get them more
involved and feel a part of the show.
I also found out that most people spend £50-£80 a week on food shopping for there home.
Conventions that I will be using:
• Voiceover
• Main Interview
• Archive footage
• Cutaway
• Music
• Text
4. Target Audience and Key Findings
From Research
My primary target audience will be both male and female aged 18-21, this is because
my audience will be looking for something like this if they need advice and help on
living on a budget, trying to save as much money as they can.
Documentary's I’ve seen:
• Biggie & Tupac
• The Imposter
• Frost & McCartney (Interview)
• The Gadget Man
• The Fried Chicken Show
5. Purpose and Filling A Gap In The
Market
• Specific for teenagers/young adults and fills
the gap in the market as there is not another
documentary that focus’s on an audience age
16-21 male and female. Focus's on people
moving out or going to university on how to
cook cheap basic healthy meals.
6. Distribution And Marketing
• I will distribute this on Facebook, Youtube and
Instagram before it officially comes out, ill do
like a 10-15 second teaser trailer. All 3 will be
free.
I can market it mainly through these social
websites especially on Instagram as I nearly have
7000 followers, I can also put a link on the video
so it’ll take the viewers to the documentary on
Youtube. (2birds with one stone)
7. Budget, Equipment Needed
I worked out that I would need a budget that would vary from £500-£800 just incase any goes
wrong (extra vegetables and meat and ingredients) this is living on a budget so it should be a
small budget. I worked out that for a day it would cost £170.50 for the equipment.
Real budget
My real budget is going to be between £10-£20. £5 each for Justin and Ryan, an extra £10 just
in case anything goes wrong while cooking.
All the equipment I can get for free such as SLR camera, Tripod, Dolly, Light and Mic.
