Company: Qantas Airways Ltd seconded to Qantas Defence Services.
Role: To work with the Qantas Team and the Airbus Military Team to development the
first operational of the Multi Role Tanker (MRTT)‪ for the Defence of Australia
worth $2.3 Billion with 180 plus staff at peak. Capable of delivering fuel to three

strike fighters at a time plus a payload of personnel and equipment. Worked over
a six-year period in different capacities including project planning, payroll and HR
functions.
Payroll included 5 legacy EBAS each with their own union agreement, and QDS
agreement, four labour hire companies and their agreements plus common law
contracts. The staff was deployed across three hangars in Brisbane (HG1-HG3),
one in Sydney one in Madrid and when being painted a small crew in France.
Assisting to the UAE with their MRTT project in Dubai meant that I had a crew to
pay in the UAE as well.
HR Involved in organising secondments across the Qantas Engineering Network.
Working with Unions and individuals regarding the terms and conditions of
employment. I was involved in some of the discussions regarding staff
movement from one business segment to another across the network. I was the
one stop enquiry point for any payroll and HR concerns within the EBA
framework or contractor group of employees. Involved in the training of my
replacement as the business was sold for the through life support of the MRTT.
Resources Cat 2 HR Airside Licence with Security Clearance for Defence
Projects. Airside stores from hangar 3 and stores airside at the international
terminal access to Qantas Supply Chain. This included the pick up of visiting
executives, fuel for GPU and Vehicles and QGS Qantas Ground Services and
repairs of some ground equipment.
Planning included working directly with Mr. Mark Hall who was at the time the
principal planner for the MRTT project. The manufacturing project had over 3500
plus technical separate jobs documented and the revisions of the drawings and
work instructions were updated regularly from Spain. It was a technically
complex project as no one had actually built an MRTT before this time. Included
the quarantine of parts, negotiation of additional parts, testing of bonding agents,
the sourcing of project materials in line with the contract. Contract supplies that
can be traced to manufacture and the testing of all external additions in line with
the contract. The licensing and training of specific skill sets such as spray
painting to EADS CASA standards. Audit Compliance with RAAF, Qantas,
Qantas Defence Services, EADS CASA Military, external Auditor and CASA.

Payroll included 5 legacy EBAS each with their own union agreement, and QDS agreement, four labour hire companies and their agreements plus common law contracts. Airside stores from hangar 3 and stores airside at the international terminal access to Qantas Supply Chain. This included the pick up of visiting executives, fuel for GPU and Vehicles and QGS Qantas Ground Services and repairs of some ground equipment. Planning included working directly with Mr. Mark Hall who was at the time the principal planner for the MRTT project. The manufacturing project had over 3500 plus technical separate jobs documented and the revisions of the drawings and work instructions were updated regularly from Spain. It was a technically complex project as no one had actually built an MRTT before this time. Included the quarantine of parts, negotiation of additional parts, testing of bonding agents, the sourcing of project materials in line with the contract. Contract supplies that can be traced to manufacture and the testing of all external additions in line with the contract. The licensing and training of specific skill sets such as spray painting to EADS CASA standards.
