1. This close up shot at the beginning of the
music video shows the boy laying in a
foetus positon.This connotes to babies
showing that the boy is in a vulnerable
state. There is also a hint of intertextuality
with this shot and a shot from Terminator
where the actor Arnold Schwarzenegger
also lays in a foetus positon.In the
distance, not in focus lays a blue hat, we
later find out that the boy does not choose
the blue hat to wear he chooses the red
this continues to shows the boys
vulnerability it also shows that the boy has
no association with calmness because he
avoids the blue hat.
2. In this shot we see a
juxtaposition. We can see on a
connotive level that the teacher is
terrified of the student when if
anything it should be the other
way around. This confirms that
this boy is the main protagonist in
the music video. This also
references to bullying but it’s the
people in authority (teachers)
against the student. The teacher
wears a bright yellow cardigan
which is the minimal amount of
colour we see in this desaturated
scenery causing her to be a
representation of youthfulness
and joy. We also read ‘call the
police’ from the teachers lips
continuing to add on the
reference of fright and bulling.
3. The transition to the boy now running in
to dark woods is a reference to horror and
science fiction. It's a place of safety for the
boy which we would consider 'scary' or
'weird'. This scene is something highly
expected In a thriller film. It’s a long shot
where the boy can be seen going back
into the foetus position we saw in the
beginning of the music video. Instead of
fighting authority he chooses to use his
power to repel them away from him. The
transition of daylight to the dark woods is
a reference to horror and science fiction,
it's a place of safety for the since he’s not
excepted in the ‘normal society’.
