2. This is the first shot were we get introduced to the first characters.
We can see through the mise en scene that there is a relationship
between these too characters and the audience assume they may be
brother due to the diegetic dialogue between them. Also the close up
shot of the younger boy shows his facial expression and suggesthe
feels safe and protected by his older brother.
We see that they are in a older child/teenager bedroom due to the
props set around them. However this film does not look set in
present times as there is no recent technology such as a computer or
Gameboys.
The pace of the edit at the moment is slow which sets an easy
peaceful mood, although the shots aren't too long, the way
continuity slows it down.
3. In the next part of the trailer the pace starts to speed up. The trailer is
still continuous but the use of short shots speeds it up.
In this particular close up shot have an image of a paper boat in the
right third of the frame. This boat represent innocence and childhood.
The innocence of this part is heavily supported by the se of diegetic
sound. The boy laughing enhance the idea that he is playing and
having fun even though its heavily raining outside.
This is where the mood starts to change. The next few shots, panning
shot, birds eye view shot, and tracking are all editing extremely fast
and the pace in which the boat is followed by the camera intensifies
the mood.
Also the mise en scene definitely supports the conventions of a
thriller. The setting for thrillers are usually set when raining, in woods,
dark places. Here the rain is heavily pouring and the lighting is very
low key which shows that something bad is going to happy.
4. The mise en scene here shows the a shot of a birds eye view shows
the setting of the film. The streets and urban lifestyles shows that
it will be set in a suburban town. Most thrillers are set in citties or
towns. This is because it makes it more realistic for the audience to
intensify the mood and make the events more relatable.
The contrast between the close up shot of the boy looking into the
drain with the low key lighting and then the birds eye view with
high key lighting creates a chilling mood. This is because the
audience will be surprised that an event like a kidnapping could
happen in such a normal, realistic place.
5. This close up shot shows the mise en scene and
suggests to the audience that there will be a
kidnapping or this will be one of the themes
through the duration of the film. However, you
can also see that the age of the person is only
15. This is a way to entice the audience and
make them want to watch the film so they can
find out why there's a child that has been
kidnapped.
6. In this mid shot the camera shows the setting in a library due to
the mise en scene. This also supports the idea of innocents and
childhood. However the mood in this scene is mysterious and
creepy as the pace is a contrast from the short shots. This section I
feel is able to intensify the trailer by slowing the pace down to
build up tension for the audience.
The colours in this scene are very dull; dark blues, blacks, browns.
But the only thing that stands out is the moving bright red balloon.
This is part of the brand identity of the film 'IT' as this is the main
object they use as a USP. We are also able to see the reaction of
the young boy in the library as he turns around the see the strange
object.
7. In this clip from a scene in the film, we are introduced to the
group of children. During the teaser trailer the majority of
the screen time for the characters is made up by children.
This suggests to the audience that this film is targeted to
younger people as its easier to relate to.
The mise en scene shows that the film definitely is set in
either the 70s or 80s. We know this by the prop used. It is an
old fashioned projector and most children nowadays would
use either a phone or computer to look at photos.
8. This is the first glimpse we have of the creature, monster 'IT'. We know from
the associationof the balloonthat this is the antagonist,or evil characterin
the film. We assume from the very short shot and little mise en scene that
this is a clown. The makeup in this shot creates the creepy and disgusting
image of a clown. Although the audience will be horrified as some people are
scared of clowns, it will intrigued people to watch the actual film itself.
I feel the red coloritself definitley shows that there will be danger during the
film and creates and suggests that there maybe a theme of death in the film.
The non-diegticsound is of childrenlaughing which againsuggests the
innocence that they are trying to make creepy. And that the film is based
about children.
9. These last two shots in the teaser trailer are the ones that definitelyare the creepiest. The mid shot of the young
boy with the yellowraincoaton is chilling as he is the same as the young boy from the beginning shots however
he laughs extremely creepily and then starts shouting. Although a child laughingis usuallythought to be
associated with happiness, tin this teaser trailer it is used to create an eerie and creepy atmosphere. This then
makes the audiencewant to understandwhat has happened to the child.
The last shot of the teaser trailer in the film title itself. I felt as though havingthis last would make the audience
remember the title and keep it in mind so they would want to go and watch the film after. The title is central in the
frame and is in red, sketchy font. Red is a the main colour which runs through the brandidentity of this film.
However the way the font it almost looks like the title has been scratched out of the black background.By doing
this it creates an evil, creepy atmosphere and enhances the genre itself.
