Research/Planning Preliminary Task Filming
Sound
Within our production, we have
audio files that we initially planned
on using, rather than the other
sounds that are available through
Final Cut as we thought creating our
own sounds would be more creative
and easier to capture. We done this
by smashing a glass and recording
the audio only. We also used this for
the door knocks for when the victim
is watching TV.
Location/Setting
In terms of setting and location, we
have filmed this in an apartment
which was not too far from our
school. We chose this settings as this
was conventional and is more
realistic as the victims privacy has
been ruined and exploited by the
antagonist.
Iconography
There were various different types of
iconography displayed within our
thriller, such as the mask and letter
at the doorstep which was set up by
the antagonist, this creates meaning
and danger due to the fact the note
had blood smuggled across it. This is
also conventional to the genre as this
would build the tension to the
audience and create suspense.
The Unseen, Antagonist
Scream, Antagonist Sixth Sense, Victim
The Unseen, Victim
In the Sixth Sense, the
victim is a young male
who’s in his own
comfort and in his
pajama’s. This already
connotes that he is
comfortable and
undisturbed. This is
conventional to its
genre as he plays the
victim
In regards to my thriller,
the victim wears white
to connote that he is
pure and nonviolent. He
is also a young aged
teenager who is
troubled in his own
home. His
Iconography connotes information to the audience. This varies upon what the object may be, they
could also represent themes and foreshadow upcoming events that possibly may occur in the later
stages of the film.
In my thriller, there is a pumpkin that is placed on the stairs, this would portray that the theme
would be Halloween due to the fact is also carved in. This is conventional as the Halloween theme is a
common theme that is used in thriller movies. I confirmed with my group that I wanted to use typical
and obvious iconography as this would suit the thriller convention well.
This image is from a famous
thriller named Physco, the use of
lighting shows that the light is
coming from the top of her head
therefore this is top lighting.
Furthermore the lighting may
also convey the most important
scenes that they may find
appealing.
The target audience is something we had to think through as this is one of the most important
aspects that could makes our film viewable and legal.
After I have done my research I have seen other thriller films online and there age rating was
mostly 15/18 age ratings, this varied on the content it contained. We as a group, have come to the
conclusion that a 15 age rating group would be the most suitable to choose as this did not
contain major violence and scenes that may effect the ages over 15.
