David Guetta- Titanium ft. Sia
A Level Media Studies
By Hannah Brown
Scene 1
These are two separate scenes shot in the first setting- the school. The first scene is a close up and the second is a mid
shot. In the first scene there is a hat positioned in the left third of the screen, next to the boy’s hand, amongst the
rubble and destruction. In the second scene the boy is wearing a red hat, as he marches out of the school. The blue
hat in the first scene could represent tranquillity, whereas the colour red represents danger. This could be a metaphor
as the boy is leaving the tranquillity and becoming a danger. The blue and red both stand out as they are bold primary
colours, amongst dull, dreary colours. The school itself isn’t bright- walls and lockers are grey, making it seem like an
uninviting place. The fact it’s dark and dreary also adds to this feeling of unwantedness.
Scene 2
This is a mid shot. In this scene, the child is walking through the corridor as a teacher cowers in her classroom,
possibly calling the police. The boy is dressed in dull clothing which contrasts the teacher’s bright clothes. This
clothing could represent. This shows a reversal of power; in most instances the teacher is meant to have the power,
and have authority over the child, but here she is scared of the boy making him have power over her.
Scene 3
This is a mid shot. This is the second location-the boy’s home. Lighting is minimal- director’s have kept lighting
natural. The natural lighting helps tell the story- viewers are going through the day with the boy. This scene exhibits
the supernatural powers of the boy. Though he is not in this scene, he is controlling the bears, confusing the
policemen. Once again this is a reversal of power. The policemen are meant to have power, control, over the boy- but
he has power and control over them.
Scene 4
This is a wide shot in the fourth and final location of the music video- the woods. The woods themselves connote a
dark and eerie place, something bad always happens in the woods. There is an abandoned truck behind the boy and
police officer, this could reference the boy’s loneliness and having the barrel pointing right in his face could reference
how the boy feels as though everybody is aiming hatred and fear towards him. There doesn’t seem to be any artificial
lighting. The directors have let the scene get dark. This scene has enabled roles to be regained. Now the police have
the power. The boy is on the ground, while the armed officer stands over him aiming the gun. You can clearly see the
boy’s scared expression, but the officer’s face is hidden, but you can imagine he is relieved to be back in his role.
