2. Day 1 8th May Today I started on my music creation for my video. I couldn't
find any songs I liked that fit and I have a basic knowledge on
music production I made my own.
• I layered upbeat synths with an electric piano to create a
very happy lo-fi feel to the track. I added a complex drum
pattern with a compression and EQ filter over it to make it
more subdued and less like a dance anthem but more like
a feel good tune to listen to to relax.
• The Boutique 808 drum pad is a very soft and adds an
analogue sound to the drum pad which I wanted as it
sounds a lot softer and nicer than a straight electric one.
• The FM Piano was chosen because it has an organ sound
to it on top of a synth sound. It was easy to change the
adjust the EQ as all the sound is coming through the mid
frequencies so I can focus on them
• The Slow Drift synth also has the organ sound but adds a
little more bass to it as it comes through the mid and low
frequencies. This adds a nice bass effect to the song that
can't easily be achieved with a regular bass or synth bass.
Editing the sound was easy as it came with dials for
individual sound adjustments such as the delay and attack
of each note being played.
• The crystal pad piano was chosen as it had a nice sounding
repeated effect already preset. This worked well with the
chords I played in the track as they were longer than the
individual notes I played to move between.
• The bass guitar adds another analogue element to the
track and is only plucked on the bass drum of the 808. This
adds a little bit of deeper sound to it and adds some
structure to it. Without it it feels like something is missing
from the track and that fills the void well.
3. Day 2 9th May
Today I continued to work on my music for. I
have changed the drums and the bass to
flow more smoothly.
• I made the drums acoustic as it adds a
more of a laidback and relaxed feel to
the song that the electric drums
couldn't. I used a very acoustic and low
strap kit with a compression filter and
eq filters.
• I changed the style of bass to I picked a
plucked style instead of the stringer bass
I had previously. I also added pedals to
reverb and compress the sound into the
style that I want. The delay pedal adds a
bit of echo to the bass. this makes it
much nicer to listen to as it is not as
sharp.
• I kept the two synth keyboards the same
as I liked the sound.
• I removed the crystal pad keyboard and
replaced it with a glockenspiel. I kept
the same tune as it worked with both
instruments well. It adds a bell sound to
the gaps in the tune that isn't filled with
the residual drum sounds and/or synth
sounds.
• I changed a lot from yesterday as after a
re-listen I was not happy

4. Day 3 10th May
Today I finished the final mix of my music for the videos. I used
Adobe Audition for the mastering of the track as it has more
advanced features to make it sound amazing.
• In garage band I changed the drum pattern as the other was
very disorganized. I kept the same amount sounds just made it
more organised and I moved the fill up to the 8th bar and not
the 4th bar. I wanted some brass sounding instruments and the
trumpet sounds just weren’t fitting well so I added a brass
synth and matched the pattern of the bass so it works well
together. I also made the FM Piano into a backing synth by only
making it play the chords of the tune
• I individually exported each track into audition as it would
make editing the sound easier if I needed to do individual
adjustments, which I did. I mastered each audio track
individually and then did a master edit on the master track as it
would go across all the tracks.
• I used the EQ band editor to bring out the low and high ends
that garage band supresses when exporting. This made the
sound richer and more full. I used the 20 band editor as it
allowed me to adjust specific frequencies.
• I also used the DeNoise tool to denoise the brass synth as it
was not sounding good after the EQ messing.
• The loudness meter was used to make sure it all sounds the
same across the whole song. I set the goal target to be -14dB as
I still wanted the synths to be louder but the bass and drums to
average out at -14dB.
• I used the FFT filter to filter out specific frequencies to help
with the deepness of the sound and the fullness
• This process worked really well in finalizing the track to make it
ready for the video. It is also quite a simple process so if I need
to change the music to work with specific parts of the song I
can easily change it and re-master it

5. Process 4 13th May
• Today I shot all my footage in town.
• I stuck to my storyboards for the key locations but
shot a lot of b-roll and a-roll whilst walking to each
location.
• I realised very quickly that I was too ambition in the
amount of hyper lapses I wanted to as they took
triple the amount of time I had planned. I still did
the main ones but they are quite short so I am
going to add all the other footage in there. Overall I
got about 10GB of footage, more than enough
footage for this video
• I took a variety of shots including wides of crowds
and close up pans. This will all come together nicely
and will fit with the music well.
• It was incredibly bright on the day as there were no
clouds to diffuse light and the nature of the shots
meant I couldn’t use a diffuser so the highlights are
blown out a bit. I can fix this with adjustment layers
and colour correction.
6. Process 14th May
• Today I compiled my first hyper-lapse
scene.
• I took a lot of time as I was
experimenting with different work styles
to which is the most efficient.
• To speed up the process I set all the
picture lengths to 1 frame and used the
paste attributes feature to resize them all
at once. This saved a lot of time due to
the amount of photos I have
• I then used a crosshair png off google to
line up Clifford’s Tower in each photo so
they would be in the same place. This
took a bulk of the time as it has to be
very precise for the warp stabilization to
take effect.
• I set the stabilizer to 100% to make it very
smooth and look professional.
• I think the final product looks good and
will add nicely to the overall video.
7. Process 15th May
• Today I started to motion track the
footage that needed names on them
and I started work on the twirl transition
• The motion tracking was difficult
because a lot of my clips were very short
so I had to decide if it was worth it or
not to include. I added to a couple of
clips such as Clifford's tower and the
minster.
• I also made the whirl transition. I did it
on adjustment layers so it could easily
be copied across to other places that it
was needed. It was relatively simple
once I had done it. It involved a lot of
heavy effects working at once so after
every adjustment I had to render the
effects so premier didn’t have a
breakdown, this was slow and tedious
but I worked in the end
8. Process 16th May
• Today I sorted out the transitions and edited
a full hyperlapse scene.
• Todays hyperlapse was much quicker to edit
as it I used the same way of doing it as last
time. This is so much easier and I am going to
do the is method for each one I do.
• I also sorted out the transition between
coppergate and the zoom shot of the
minster, this is now so much smoother and
flows better.
• Its been a slow process because after every
effect or big change I have to render the
whole sequence so my computer doesn’t
grind to a halt.
• I am happy with the progress so far but I
think the overall speed of the video needs to
be slower. This will be tricky to do as they are
quite boring shots so making it slower will
mean people will loose interest quicker.
9. Process 17th May
• Today I started to create the final
hyperlapse of this video. I also started
my sound design
• The hyperlapse went very smoothly
until I got to adding the warp
stabilization. The clip had something
wrong with it that meant it just broke
down and went very wrong. It made it
so much less stable so I will have to
carefully go through each photo and
try to line them up as best I can. It is
very annoying that it wont work
• I started to gather sound effects that I
could use. I got some different ones of
trains and train station
announcements to compile for the the
shot of the train station. I still have to
gather sound effects of crowds for the
minster shots. I had an idea to overlay
sounds of Viking battle type sounds for
the Clifford's tower shot but I don’t
really know what it will be like
10. Process 21st May
• Toady I added motion tracked graphics to the
main buildings in the video and finished the
edit
• The titles on the buildings work really well as
pointers for the people watching the video. I
did it in after effects with the 3d camera
tracking effect. I am really pleased with how
it turned out
• I also added a mask transition to the final
and second final clip. This looks really good
and helps to the flow of the video a lot
• I also finished the actual editing bit. I still
need to colour it and add more sound effects
to it. I plan to add a Filter Grade lut to the
video to enhance the visuals of the video.
• So far I am very happy with how it has turned
out.
11. Process 22nd May
• Today I added my colour grade to the video.
• I used a Filter Grade lut called CineVibrant to make
the image brighter and more colourful.
• It was not perfect so I increased the warmth
(orange) of the video as a warmer image makes it
more inviting and makes York look like a nicer place.
I also lowered the highlights, shadows and blacks to
make the darker parts of the videos such as the
shadows etc. lighter and less dull. I also added a
shadow tint to this which helped it blend with the
overall colour changes. I upped the contrast and
exposure to create a distance between colours and
make them all brighter.
• I still need to refine the edit as some bits are a bit
too fast, they need slowing or changing and the
grass colour is a bit to orange giving the impression
that the grass is dead.
• To fix the grass colour issue I played around the
colour correction tool and the HLS key tool. The HLS
tool helped me to pinpoint the green that needed
help and the correction tool made increasing the
green much easier than I originally thought

12. Process 23rd May
• Today I fixed the grass issue and other colour
correction issues
• To fix the grass colour issue I played around
the colour correction tool and the HLS key
tool. The HLS tool helped me to pinpoint the
green that needed help and the correction
tool made increasing the green much easier
than I originally thought. It took a lot of
playing about with it before I figured out how
to use it and once I did it was very easy to
make all the changes I needed to.
• It is only a subtle change but it helps keep the
vibrate aesthetic and makes the grass look
green and fresh
• I am very pleased with the look of it now and
not think I need to mess with it anymore.
• Tomorrow I need to find and finish off my
sound design and it should be done
BEFORE
AFTER
13. Process 24th May – 8th June
• These days I was waiting for the weather to
improve which it hasn’t so I am going to have
to go out and door asap regardless of the
weather
• During this time I worked on corrections and
improvements to my other work
14. Process 9-10th June
• Over the past 2 days I have shot the rest of my second and third video and
fully edited it
• I shot all of my footage on the 9th as it was mediocre weather but still
useable. I didn’t take any hyperlapses as I was rushing to get it all done in
between downpours. Instead I took a lot of moving shots that work and
look just as nice. I ended up with about 200 video clips so I was happy I had
enough.
• On the 10th I edited all my footage together
• To save time and to focus on the actual editing I used the same colour
grade as the first video and copied the adjustment layer with the twirl
effects onto this timeline. It saved a lot of time as I only had to make a few
adjustments to the colour adj layer and didn’t have to touch the transition
layers. I needed to add a lot of warp stabilization to all the clips. This was
an issue because every couple of clips that I had added it too, premier
crashed and I had to reopen it. This was very tedious and annoying but
eventually it was done and I could focus on the other things. I used the
same music as well as it would help keep the same feel to the videos. I had
to move the ending of the song as I wanted to make this video longer. It
ended up being about 1 min 30 sec
• I used after effects for its camera tracking and text features to add labels
to the streets I shot in too make it easier for tourists to see what it is. This
went really smoothly apart from one clip in which it failed to track camera.
I ended up just using premier to add text that way
• I combined video 2 & 3 as I felt after the first one it was too short and
moved through the things to quickly and I wanted something smooth and
not rushed. This works well as I my intention was to create social media
videos for York and video 1 (short one) will work nicely as it is short and
has some interesting visuals. Video 2 (longer one) will work nicely for a
YouTube advert or other website advert as it is longer but as enjoyable and
conveys enough information.
