2. PRODUCTION LOG:
GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.
3. FILMING
• Technical – I made sure to always carry a charger with me so I
always had access to my camera.
• Logistical – I ended up completely changing my location which
was difficult in terms of timings but I worked through it with help of
my Gantt chart
• Personnel – The original actress that I had planned to film ended
up cancelling on me, this wasn’t a huge problem as I had planned
for this and had a back up actress straight away.
• Planning –Overall I think I planned the project quite well, If I were
to improve I would allow room for more errors in my Gantt chart.
• Next steps –Moving forward, I am going to re-film a few scenes
and add some more clips as I didn’t manage to get enough footage
to cover the length of the audio
4. CHANGES
Because my actress was unavailable I had to talk to my
backup actress who could only film at a certain time over 3
days. Because of this time restriction I changed my location
to my house. This did not actually effect the story line, just
the setting. Overall I am still happy with the final outcome of
my project.
5. FILMING –
PRODUCTION STILLS
This is one of my favorite shots. Not only technically
speaking but also in terms of its narrative. My intention
was to make the actress show a feeling of emptiness
but also longing. This oxymoronic mood paired with raw
shot, made up my favorite scene.
Although this shot isn’t emotionally powerful,
I like the lighting in it. I placed the actress
here for the shot as I wanted the light to
almost reflect hope for her. The ‘moral’ of the
song is about loving yourself even if others
do not and by showing light in these scenes
strengthens this moral.
6. EDITING
The most important editing decision I made
was to shorten the audio, I did this out of
personal choice.
I also reduced/increased the speed of my clips
slightly to help my clips flow together nicely.
When shortening the audio I needed to make it
sound like an appropriate finish for a song, so
had to pay attention to detail, by opening the
sound bar in left corner, I knew where the
sound waves started and ended in better
detail.
7. EDITING –
FILE MANAGEMENT
In order to organize my files I created a folder to
store my screenshots and clips in. This was
effective as it allowed me to find my files easily.
I split my media music video folder into three
folders and left one folder to keep my final video
in. I also saved my final video to blogger and
YouTube in order to save it.
8. EDITING –
SETTING UP PREMIERE
To set up a new project go to file, open, project once you’ve
opened premiere pro.
I named my project Media Studies Music Video so
it would be easy to find.
Once I created a new project , I put all the clips I recorded
into the media log so I could access every clip when I
needed to.
10. EDITING –
WORKSPACE
One of the most important interface controls were the skip and play
button which I had to use every editing session.
This tool was good as it allowed me to see if I had
edited a clip or not, if I over edited I could have
risked effecting the quality of my project.
The timelines on premiere pros interface include seconds
which makes it really easy to find the exact point that I
need to.
Another important part of premiere pros interface is the
media center where I can save the videos in my
project and access them easily.
11. EDITING –
COLOUR CORRECTION/SFX
I only used one special effect which was editing the speed/duration of my clips to help
my final video flow smoothly. Apart from that, I didn’t use any other special effects. The
main reason I did this was because I wanted to keep my video raw like the song. I think
adding special effects would effect the emotion of the video I want to create.
12. EDITING –
EXPORT
Step one: Render the video and then go to file,
export.
Step two: Make sure the to set the export
settings at H.264.
I then uploaded the exported file to YouTube to
be easily accessible to whoever is marking my
project.
