Proposal for print advert:
Name of Film: Working title: Indelible. We chose this as the very meaning of the word is
leaving marks and scars that can’t be removed. This is symbolic of our FGM idea as it’s a
traumatic experience that tends to emotionally scar people.
Tagline of Film: At the moment, the options are…
Production Name: Grim productions
Medium: Print Advert
Format: print/ landscape
Target Audience: 15 to late 30s
Content of the advert:
Our print advert will contain an image of a tattered doll in a close-up shot, in a tight frame
attached to puppeteer strings. We’ll see two large hands on the top of the poster
controlling these strings with the doll slumped at the end. We’ve chosen to have a doll in
the poster to illustrate our filmwill revolve around a child. The poster will be darker on the
top, using low-key lighting to hint to the audience the person controlling the strings is the
antagonist and is controlling the protagonist in the film. The doll will be made from fabric
and will have dark hair, wearing a black and white dress. The top will be black to show
whatever the antagonist has done to the protagonist is influencing her, forcing her to give
into her past darkness, whereas the bottom of the dress will be white to symbolise
innocence and purity as well as create an idea of a fight between darkness and light. There
will be stains of blood on the bottom of her dress to hint at our FGM idea. The colour of the
strings is going to be red connoting danger and violence. The doll will use a direct mode of
address with an emotionless, straight face, almost as a cry for help, as a symbol of the little
girl in our film. The title of the film will be in capital letters at the bottom of the poster,
placed in the middle. The tagline will be slanted, in smaller font, embedded into the
puppeteer strings.
Publishing of the advert: We’re going to use above the line advertising. The advert will be
shown on several social media platforms such as Instagram, snapchat and Facebook. This is
because the younger side of our target audience tend to use snapchat and the older side
use Facebook. They all equally use Instagram regularly.
What is your Unique Selling Point? Our product focuses on a real life issue that’s on the
rise. FGM is highly concentrated in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Our narrative is
different as it challenges Todorovs theory of equilibrium being restored at the end; in
contrast to this our film ends on disequilibrium.
Competitive market: Working title, Warner bros, blumhouse, hammer horror as they all
target the same audience as us. Their horror posters follow the typical conventions. Their
are very dark and sinister which we aim to make ours like. For example Warner Bros
Annabelles poster also contains a doll/ their main colours are red and black just like our
poster. However ours is unique as we have the puppeteer idea going on, instead of the doll
just sitting in the frame.
