Non-Renewable or Conventional sources of Energy
Renewable or Non-Conventional sources of Energy
Different sources of Energy
Good Source of Energy
Wind Energy
A non-renewable resource (also called a finite resource)
is a resource that does not renew itself at a sufficient
rate for sustainable economic extraction in meaningful
human time-frames. They are also called Conventional
Source of Energy.
Ex:- Coal, Petroleum, Nuclear Fuels, etc.
A renewable resource of energy is a natural resource which
replenishes to overcome resource depletion caused by usage and
consumption, either through biological reproduction or other
naturally recurring processes in a finite amount of time in a human
time scale.
Renewable resources are a part of Earth's natural environment and
the largest components of its ecosphere.
This type of energy is also called Non-Conventional Source of Energy.
Example:- Sunlight, Wind, Water, etc.
Solar Energy.
Wind Energy.
Geothermal Energy.
Nuclear Energy.
Tidal Energy.
Hydroelectric Energy.
Biomass Energy.
Examples are :-
Sunlight :- The sun provides us with heat, energy, light and vitamin D.
Water :- Water resources are sources of water that are potentially useful. Uses
of water include agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental
activities.
Air :- . Air is a third critical resource for humans, plants, animals and all other
organisms within a natural area. It is also used to generate electricity.
The characteristics of a good source energy are:-
 It should have a high calorific value
 It should be easy to handle
 It should be easily available
 It should be easy to store
 It should be cheaper.
 It should produce less amount of smoke.
Wind energy is a form of solar energy.
Wind energy(or wind power) describes the process
by which winds are used to generate electricity.
Wind turbines converts the kinetic energy of
wind into mechanical power.
A generator converts mechanical power into
electricity.
It uses WIND MILL.
A mill or machine operated by the wind usually acting on
oblique vanes or sails that move it in anti-clock or clock
wise direction according to the winds to generate
electricity. It is called Wind Mill.
Advantages:-
-It is eco-friendly.
-It will never exhaust.
Disadvantages
-Setup cost is high. Requires high maintenance.
-Minimum wind speed – 15km/hr continuously required for
electricity generation.
