6. TUESDAY SCIENCE LEAVES knowing about plant adaptations
RESPIRE (release gas), NUTRITION (photosynthesis)
Leaves and respiration Today you will need to do lots of noticing & observing
1. Collect any green leaf from a living plant – not the ground
2. Place the leaf in a clear bowl or beaker, with water, the leaf must be UNDER the water in a sunny spot
3. Make some observations about the leaf & water
4. Leave the beaker for a few hours in the sun

8. Go back outside if you can & look at 5 different plants, name the parts of the leaves
9. Can you find any special features of any of the leaves, using ideas from the video clip
10. Use a watering can (a milk carton with holes in the lid is perfect), gently sprinkle water
on some of the plants, how do the leaves react, hold the water- what do you notice?
11. Go back to the leaf in the water you might see something like this:
