As a young boy, the Tzemach Tzedek
was once sitting listening in to some Chasidim talking. The discussion was about the coming of Moshiach.
In middle one Chosid turned to another and said: Who knows when Moshiach will come?
Hearing this, the Tzemach Tzedek exclaimed, “This is בלעם'ס manner of speaking. In Parshas Balak we read how בלעם said "אראנו ולא עתה אשורנו ולא קרוב"
meaning he viewed Moshiach and the Geulah as a faraway thing. A Yid, on the other hand, needs to hope and anticipate every day that Moshiach will come right away”!
The Mishkan that the Yidden built in the Midbar required many different materials, gold, silver, copper, and… cedar-wood! Now, the gold, silver and copper were easy, they had loads of it with them in the dessert from Mitzrayim, but where exactly did the Yidden get cedar-wood in the dessert?
Rashi quotes the Midrash that says Yaakov Avinu foresaw that his children will eventually leave Mitzrayim and will need to build a Mishkan made from cedar-wood. So back then, before the Golus even started, Yaakov planted cedar-trees and commanded his children that when they leave Mitzrayim, they should take the cedar-wood along with them.
The Rebbe points out that by planting cedars in Mitzrayim, Yaakov wasn’t simply ensuring that when the day comes, his children will have the necessary materials, but rather it was an act of encouragement and hope, a sign that their redemption from Golus is already foreseen and definite. These cedars, planted in Mitzrayim, strengthened the courage and hope of the Yidden in Mitzrayim. Even in the midst of the thick Golus the Yiden were able to see “the light at the end of the tunnel”.
So too in our Golus, the seeds for the Geula were already planted, that even while in the darkest moments of Golus, we have with us the “cedars” that Yaakov Avinu planted into every generation, encouraging us, reminding us of the definite Geula just ahead of us. These cedars are the Nesi’ei Yisroel of every generation who themselves stand higher than the Golus and strengthen us, keeping us strong even through the darkest moments of Golus. May we merit to see the Geula itself, speedily in our days, Amen !

On 9 Adar 5750 the Rebbe expressed the specialty of the year 5750 as follows:
The ר״ת of תש״נ is תהא שנת ניסים (it shall be a year of miracles) namely the miracle of The Geula.
When the Manichim edited the Sicha, they wrote ״החל״ - starting with the miracles of Geula, the Rebbe crossed out "החל" , and put in "ובמיוחד" - and specifically with the miracles of Geula.

On Thursday night, Beis Adar 1 5752, Crown Heights residents were shocked by the cruel murder of Mrs. Pesya Leah Lapine who gave up her life Al Kiddush Hashem.
That Erev Shabbos thousands gathered outside 770 for the Levayah. At around two o’clock the Aron arrived. Soon after the Rebbe appeared with a serious look on his holy face. Following closely behind the Aron, he led the procession onto Kingston avenue until reaching the huge “Moshiach is on the way” sign (corner of Kingston & union). The Rebbe stood there for ten minutes, all the while watching the people continue down to the house of the Nifteress.
On Motzei Tes Adar, the night following the Shivah, the Rebbe returned from the Ohel. As he walked in for Minchah-Maariv he did not encourage the Freiliche singing as usual. When the end of Davening came the Rebbe turned and faced the microphone, the sign that the shtender should be set up for a Sicha.
In the Sicha that followed (printed below) it seemed the Rebbe was speaking more to Hashem than to the large crowd gathered in 770. The Sicha lasted some ten minutes and was said with much feeling. The Toichen of the Sicha was shocking (reminding many of the Sicha of 28 Nissan 5751). The Rebbe spoke on the Inyan of the Mesirus Nefesh and the unbearable delay of the Geulah! In the middle of the Sicha the Rebbe called out in visible pain, “Another day and another week and another second passes and we still do not have the Geulah B’pashtus!”
The crowd was greatly aroused by the words spoken to do everything they possibly could to bring the Geulah.
