OCR A2 Media Evaluation - Mÿca Yañez
Comparing what went well with the ancillary tasks (poster and website) in relation to the main product (horror movie trailer)
Interactive Powerpoint_How to Master effective communication
Evaluation Q2: How effective was the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
1.
2. I demonstrated consistency
throughout my ancillary tasks and
main product. To do this, I made
sure that similar framing and
costuming of ‘evil’ Ieva was
present.
The top right picture is a still from
the trailer, where Ieva is coming
down a brightly lit corridor; the
bottom right shows a screenshot of
the homepage for my website.
I feel that this was an effective
technique to use as it makes clear
a horror movie feel at the same
time as allowing audiences to
immediately understand that the
products relate to one-another.
3. One key theme that was decided
for my horror movie was the
context of mental illness.
Throughout the trailer, this was
emphasised through close-ups and
intertitles that implied something
going on in Ieva’s head. To show
this in my poster, I photo-shopped
a second image of Ieva inside her
pupil, almost looking like it was
trapped.
Consistency of this idea that the battle
was being fought within again allows the
audience to relate the tasks.
Consistency is a key convention in the
creation of the promotional package for
any movie and I thought this was
particularly effective as it also hinted at
the film genre; psychological horror.
4. I also continued key conventions
followed in the trailer for the horror
movie in my ancillary tasks through
using similar pictures in terms of
framing, costuming and colours.
Although in this example, I changed
the meaning behind the two stills,
consistency was kept through
colour.
Colour scheme was important when deciding to keep consistency throughout the texts.
I tried to keep to a washed-out, dark pallet of greys, blues and cream colours.
5. By referencing the production
logos throughout the ancillary
tasks and the main product, I was
able to show additional
permanence, therefore linking the
three together.
6. Baring in mind my chosen
audience demographic and the
impact technological
advancements has had on
them, I also made a mobile
version of my website.
As well as another way of
promotion that was more
compatible for the devices they
are likely to view my website, I
felt it worked well with the
original website as it kept all the
main features, such as font, the
countdown to Halloween, and
images.
