3. Main product and magazine
The synergy between my main product and my magazine
is that the antagonist features as the main image on the
magazine and is a main actor in the trailer. So the
combination is very effective as the audience will recognise
the antagonist when they see the magazine from the
magazine front cover. It is also effective in advertising as
the main character of a movie is usually well known so
putting them on a front cover they will attract an audience.
5. Main product and poster
A combination between my main product and poster is, I
use script lines ('Don't get lost' which is said by Pat at the
morning brief )as a persuasive technique. This
subconsciously illustrates what kind of movie it will be, and
what will happen. Having it in both texts if effective as it
emphasises the plot of the movie.
6. Fonts
For all of my products I have used the font Baskerville to emphasise the house style of products. I mainly used this font
for quotes and subtexts for my ancillary texts.
The main font I used for my ancillary text for my title was Kozuka Gothic mixed with Hiragino Kaku Gothic, the two fonts
worked well together although I had to change the properties of the fonts such as bold and superscript and all caps to
improve the aesthetics of the title.
The font baskerville also has a theatrical feel with a hint of professionalism in juxtaposition fits the environment of our
trailer - however it still resembles a font that would be used on real media product. Baskerville is the font used on the
titles in my main product; and the majority of text on my ancillary texts.
Prior to this decision of having the same fonts for all of my products I used fonts such as Calibri for my magazine and
Times Roman for the sub quotes/texts, my reasoning for this was when I was constructing my ancillary texts I was
solely using font elements on previous media texts how ever I didn’t think about how all of my products were going to
compliment one another. Having a variety of texts would make my work look unprofessional but for aspects like
advertising and competitions on my magazine I used the fonts Impact and Century Gothic to break up the textual
content. I also had to think about if the font was readable from the audiences perspective.
In choosing a text I had to consider whether the audience could read it or not and all of the fonts I used the texts were
readable which was important.
7. Colour
The colours I have decided to use throughout my products were Red and Black
to make my work consistent.
The colours are dominant and are conventional in horror; red for danger, blood,
it raises the respiration rate and blood pressure as it is an emotionally intense
colour.
Black has connotations of power, evil, death and mystery of the unknown. It
also has negative connotations such as black humor and black death. These
two colours interlink with all of my products as there are connotations of death,
mystery blood. Making my work say consistent. It is effective as it makes the
audience depict my products to make some sort of understanding of it.
8. Images and conventions - Poster
For my poster I decided to use a main image of the main character. I got this inspiration from the
following posters.
9. Images and conventions
Using these real media products I constructed
my poster with the same conventions and
layouts such as having the main image in the
center of the poster. The credits on the bottom
and the name of the actor at the top of the
poster. Having quotes from analysts and
quotes from the film was also a conventional
element of my poster.
10. Images and conventions
Conventional for a poster with a
main image - the actors name
above the main image.
Conventional layout and
element - having an analytic
rating.
Conventional - having a quote from
the film
Social networking for advertisement of
the movie is a conventional element of
posters. I have also included an age
rating as it is an essential for film
making criteria.
Credits are conventional for
poster.
I used pre-existing posters to construct my
poster using the generic conventions so it
could be as real as possible and the
conventions had to be as effective as
possible to attract our targeted audience.
having a knife was important to
portray the horror genre, it
emphasises the the genre.
I opposed to having a conventional plain
back ground to having a bloody background
to emphasise the genre of my trailer. It
helps the audience decode the poster. I use
this blood pattern consistently through my
work for market synergy in the masthead of
my magazine and the ‘Foul play’ title.
I have also included the ‘foul play’ title on
my magazine to keep the consistency of
my work. I have incorporated markey
synergy with including this on my
magazine. It is effective as it means it will
become recognised by the audience.
11. Images and conventions
This is effective combination of my
ancillary texts as it is market synergy.
Having the protagonist hold a knife is
effective as it is market synergy as the
knife is being held in my poster. This
emphasises the type of character he is.
It also pushes the audience to have a
pre-interpretation of the character.
making the combination of the synergy
effective.
This again is an effective market
synergy, I having the antagonist in all
three products is very effective for
recognition of the movie product.
12. Seeing the synergy
The arrows represent the synergy between my three products.
This synergy is effective for recognition of the products.

Represents the antagonist featuring in the three products
Represents the red and black colour scheme
13. Conclusion
To conclude I have used market synergy
effectively to combine my ancillary text with my
main products. Making my work recognisable
and consistent.
