<ul><li>In What Ways Does Your Media Product, use, Develop or Challenge Forms and Conventions of Real Media Products? </li></ul>
Main Product <ul><li>My main product both uses and contrasts with conventions of music videos. One convention which my video uses is the use of long shots and close ups to emphasis the characters location and emotion, in order to represent the motion presented in the lyrics of the song and possible narrative of the song. Also, jumps cuts are often used regularly in music videos to present a sudden change from one scene to another, my main product uses this convention regularly throughout. The colour of music videos, such as dark and light colours are used to present the mood and atmosphere of the song. With Kings of Leon often using dark colours to show the rock genre they use, I have used this convention in my media product and also to create the representation of the character as good and evil. My music video also challenges the conventions of music videos, because music videos are normally shown in one style of image, eg: black and white or normal colour. However, I decided to use both black and white images and colour images to create the representation of the characters development from being good to evil. </li></ul>
Ancillary Texts <ul><li>There are several conventions of magazine adverts shown in my ancillary texts. One of these is that plain white text is used because it is clear and does not fade into the background like in most adverts. Another convention used is the use of the image from the album cover being used on the advert, which is done in by most bands, which allows the audience to associate the advert with the band. However, this also challenges the convention as the whole album cover is not used on the advert, like shown in the Gorillaz advert for “Plastic Beach”. Whilst secondary information is used through the album reviews on the bottom of the advert. </li></ul>
<ul><li>How Effective is the Combination of Your Main Product and Ancillary Texts? </li></ul>
<ul><li>The combination of my ancillary texts and main products is very effective because the theme of the two texts works well together. This because the theme shown in the main product continues in to the ancillary texts. The image used on the two products will be recognised from the main product by the audience so that it is clear what the product is for. The image used in the ancillary texts is from the end of the music video. With the image in negative like in the music video. Several representations are made through the texts that are also shown in the main product. The main representation shown consistently is the idea of evil overpowering good, which is a main theme in the video. This is also clear in the ancillary texts because of the dark negative images and also the black and white text used on the magazine advert. The black and white theme continues in the magazine advert, with the red negative image creating the idea of danger like shown in the music video through the main character. The four image idea comes from research into previous album covers for the band, where images of the band have been used in a similar layout as shown in my ancillary text. The back and front cover of the album artwork work well together because the theme runs consistently through the products. </li></ul>
<ul><li>What Have You Learnt From Your Audience Feedback? </li></ul>
Questionnaire Analysis <ul><li>I used the questionnaire to gather information on the target audience also the bands genre. This helped me develop the music video in a way which best suited the target audience. I used Excel to then analysis the information which I had gathered in order to see the most popular answers clearly, from this I could make decisions on how to make the music video, by discovering what type of video the audience wanted to see. </li></ul>
Audience Research <ul><li>My audience feedback helped me to develop my main product because it helped to show what the bands main target audience wanted to see. This helped me develop the product to suit the band and their target audience. This is because the research shows the bands target audience is 11-19 year olds who listen to indie music. From my audience feedback I learnt that the use of just a narrative would be most appropriate because 54% of the target audience wanted to see this in the video. Also 60% of the bands audience wanted to see a dramatic narrative as the theme of the video. I have learnt that audience feedback is important in the production of a music video because it helps the producer to create a product which will most satisfy the target audience. This is because it allows them to see the most popular themes within the target audience, but also other potential viewers. From the results of the target audience the producer can then use the popular themes and ideas within the music video. </li></ul>
<ul><li>How Did You use New Media Technologies in the Construction, Research and Planning and Evaluation Stages? </li></ul>
Blogger <ul><li>I have used the website “Blogger” to consistently update my progress with the research and planning of my media product. Here I have presented initial ideas through to final products of both my main and ancillary media texts. Whilst also presenting vital audience feedback, which has been used to help the development of the product. I have also scanned both images and notes on the blog using the scanner, in order to show the development of the media texts. </li></ul>
Equipment Used For Filming <ul><li>To film my music video I used a High definition camera, which helped create the dark effect which was required with in the cinematography. The quality of camera helped to show the different settings and was effective when used at night, when filming the final scenes.I was able to do this by altering the settings on the camera in order for it to work differently within different light. In order to hold steady shots, or panning shots I used the tripod. Which allows the camera to be held firmly and film without shake and unnecessary movement. I then used the Apple Macs to edit the video by using IMovie. </li></ul>
IMovie I used the Apple Mac Software “IMovie” to edit, and produce my main product. The programme allows clips from the camera to be put into a set order, where the clips can be edited to be most suitable for the video. This meant that I could easily edit the length of clips to make them longer and short, and also the speed with which the clip was played. Effects can also be added to the clips with the software allowing me to change the hue and saturation of the clips to create different visual effects. This was especially important for the final scene, which was needed to be in black and white. This was possible by altering the hue and saturation of the clip. The programme also allows different transitions to be added to show a change in setting or scene.
Fireworks In order to produce my two ancillary texts I used the computer software Fireworks, which allowed me to add and edit multiple images to build up the texts. The programme also allows images to be edit, with the colour, hue and saturation allowed to be altered in order to create a variety of visual effects. Images can be added and edited on the same file, which helped me on the album cover as 4 separate images were displayed on the front. Different fonts can also be used whilst fonts can also be important from the internet allowing the most appropriate font to be used on the texts.
