2. E-waste
Our main key area of research have been the issue of " management of e-waste " in an
effective and sustainable way. Our area of focus is Delhi. Since it is banned in Delhi to recycle in
Delhi by CPPCB &MCD, We visited Recycle Centre outside Delhi. We thoroughly studied and
analyzed how e-waste moves from the point of its generation to the end point of its disposal.
There is a huge information gap among the masses about what is e-waste, its environmental,
health, and economic impacts...how it's collected and treated. E-waste in very simple words
means all the electronic products that are obsolete and no more useful. The top 3 e-waste-
producing countries are China, the USA, and India respectively.
According to The Hindu, "India generated around 10 lakh 14 thousand tonnes of e-waste
out of which only 2 lakh 30 thousand tonnes got recycled or disposed of" in 2020. India
has a total processing capacity of 13 lakh 85 thousand tonnes per annum while less than 15%
capacity is utilized effectively so it's not that India doesn't have the capacity to treat e-waste.
Hence, we through our research are trying to tackle issues of tracing the point of origin, gaps in
the collection chain, and awareness among the masses about e-waste and its impacts.
