1. Target audience
As the genre comes from urban British youth, the target audience are likely to be similar.
This means that the target audience will have similar interests, hobbies.
They may like to do other thrilling activities like going on roller coasters, watching horror
and thriller films and skating.
They’d also likely like to go to house parties held by a social group they belong to, as it is
often seen as quite thrilling, especially when parents are out.
A common trait of the average dubstep fan is that they are quite integrated to the ‘dubstep’
culture. This means that they may attend a lot of the events put on by the artists they like,
for example this may mean going clubbing or going to festivals.
Due to the long period where dubstep was not popular, and also the recent decline from the
mainstream, it has made it quite difficult for the community to put on events, as many clubs
and festivals had believed it wasn’t a lucrative genre. This led to dubstep a lot of the time
being played at and associated with underground and illegal raves, often at warehouses.
This gave dubstep, specifically its audience a rougher and tougher style and look.
I believe that the target audience of my video would be at an age range of 16-25. I have
chosen this as I believe dubstep’s progressive and unique sound is enjoyed by a younger
audience. This is because it is a relatively new genre so all the people that grew and became
fans of it are still quite young. They’d also be likely to be active in the rave scene as this
follow the stereotype that old people aren’t usually seen in raves or clubs.
The target audience would likely be in the C2 and D class as the heavy and dark music can
be relatable to someone who comes from a lower class, as things like poverty and crime are
linked to people from a lower class.
This is what I believe a common male and female member of the dubstep target audience
would look like.
As dubstep is more urban and from a lower class background, the target audience are like to
enjoy art and music. This could mean that they can be into drawing, painting and creating
things, but as it is quite a dark genre of music, the average member of the target audience
are also likely to have darker tastes. An activity that they could take part in is illegal graffiti,
where a person may take what they see and feel, and express themselves by putting it on a
place where it’s not allowed, therefore giving them a similar rush to listening to dubstep.

4. Here is a picture from Rampage 2015. One of the largest dubstep
events in the world. Here you can see many young people who may
have come from all over to attend this event.
Here you can see common traits of the dubstep target
audience. For example these boys are shown wearing
varioushats,includingthe buckethat. They are also shown
wearing different types of sunglasses and flash trainers –
which all conform to my target audience.
