My Target Audience
My target audience are people between the ages of 13 – 26 that are interested
in the genre ‘indie music’. Indie music can be defined as bands or artists who
are signed to small independent labels and that a niche demographic are
interested in.The music is also called ‘alternative’ as these banks provide an
alternative to mainstream music. Bands which fall under this category include
The Smiths,Two Door Cinema Club and The 1975. I would also like my
magazine to appeal to festival goers because, in my experience of going to the
Glastonbury and Green Man festivals, I have found that festival goers are also
interested in indie music and the lifestyle which is attached to this genre.

Cover Page
I attracted my audience through the cover page design and by using
such things as bright colours, which made the headlines stand out. I
found that by using bright green on some of the lettering, this
complimented the colour of the leaves in the background of the image
of my cover star. I also used a colour scheme of brick orange to attract
my audience because I felt that the brick orange colour is often
associated with the indie genre as a brick wall can represent graffiti
and the underground and subculture lifestyle, which again, is the
image that I’m hoping to achieve. The bands that I have chosen to
include are often associated with the indie genre such as Arctic
Monkeys and Vampire Weekend. I made the names of the bands stand
out by putting a stroke on them and putting them in different colours
and making the font bigger. The main picture of the cover star also
appeals to the indie genre as the model is wearing flowers in her hair,
which is very bohemian and gives out a ‘chilled vibe’.

Contents Page
My Contents Page appeals to my target demographic as the
advertisement for the featured article on the Glastonbury
Festival shows many pictures from previous festivals and
promises to show reviews of the bands that played at last
years festival. It also features a competition where readers
have a chance to win tickets to next years festival. Some of the
most well known bands are set out in different colours to
make them stand out and easily recognisable to the reader.

Double Page Spread
The questions I used in my Double Page Spread were set out in an
informal and chatty way, making them easy to read, however they
also provided information about the band and their musical
influences because the aim of my magazine is not only to entertain
but to inform my readers about what motivates new and upcoming
bands to create music. By asking the band about their musical
influences, I was hoping to create a buzz for my readers who might
already be fans of the bands that sound like the featured band,
Dientes, and who might decide to listen to a band who have a
similar style of music to their favourite artists. In the Double Page
Spread there is an advertisement for Dientes new album because
my target audience might not be aware that they are releasing a
new album or who they are in the first place, so the advertisement
would give them the opportunity to check it out, hopefully
download it and to look out for dates and venues where they are
playing live.
