3. Research
Strengths:
In my research – because I had I strong rough idea of what I
wanted to do for my magazine cover, I knew what kind of covers
I should look at.
With my research it helped to inspire – providing ideas for both
the artwork and the general layout all round. Furthermore I
could pick out things I like (that have already been done,) or
work of thing I didn't like and what I'd do differently.
4. Research
Weaknesses:
However, I found that I had a stronger focus on what I wanted to
do with my magazine cover that payed less attention on the page
spread (Only dedicating one slide to this...)
On top of this I felt as if I struggled with my "Audience profile."
This is because I'm not used to thinking about a demographic
when I make a bit of art work and/or product...
Next time (-to improve this,) I'd maybe I'd put more time and
attention into both "Audience Profile" and the "Research
Analysis."
5. Planning
Strengths:
I feel like my strengths were in having a strong idea of what I
wanted my front cover to look like in my head – this of course
meaning it was easy to expand of this when it came to planning a
producing my front cover.
With my planning though, I found that it help keep some of the
smaller ideas that may have been lost. It also made me think
more about what I wanted or what I'd do if something went
wrong.
6. Planning
Weaknesses:
Though I have a strong idea of what I wanted for the front cover,
I feel like this may of obscured my planning for what I wanted for
the rest of the magazine – e.g. the double page spread.
7. Time Management
Strength:
This time, in time management I managed to handle it allot
better than in previous times – times in which I fell behind and
often struggled to catch up on. However, on this unit, I found
that I kept fully on top of work – sometimes even being slightly
ahead of things.
Personally I believe that maybe, this project would of likely
benefited from additional time. In this time I would of maybe
used it to proof read all of my text and check for mistakes
through out – a skill I believe I need to work on...
11. Technical Qualities
Because my magazine was based on this line of
magazines, meaning the masthead was heavily
inspired by the currently used one – as can be
spotted on the comparison.
For both magazine they both sport the current
"Doctor Who" logo with the "BBC" logo indent.
Below the masthead his the text "magazine,"
reminding the audience of the media it is. It also
could be implying that it’s a running line – perhaps?
However, despite it's similarities, I've used a
different logo – unlike the other its less thin and
more bulky, as the two words stacked. Along with
this, "magazine" - is put in the center with two bars
supporting on both sides.
12. Technical Qualities
On both of these magazines, both share the use of a
magazine cover-line.
Unlike mine they've used different – fonts,
boldness's and sizes throughout the line. This could
make the font maybe more appealing and eye-cathy
mine. With my mine I used a plain, "Arial" font so
it'd be easier to read.
- Overall the look of the cover-line I've used differs
from the original line as I've an un-stylized look...
13. Technical Qualities
In both these magazines (as all do-) they both have
cover lines...
Again with the text they use a range of colours,
fonts, thicknesses to their text to make it appear
more appealing.
However with my text, I've (again) used the same
text at the same size, spread across the page in a
less organized fashion.
14. Technical Qualities
Much like in the example of this magazine, I've
included the use of images – advertising what will
be featured in this weeks issue.
Both images are given a stylized cut out – rounded
of edges. However in my use, I've used a white
boarder around the image.
15. Technical Qualities
Another huge similarity that can be found with my
magazine and the original line is the art work
displayed (rather than the use of a photo or
screenshot,) in the center of the page, behind the
masthead, cover-line, ect...
Like all of the magazine's cover art, I've stars (the
Doctor and his foe's) in the center of the page.
For the background, I've included a mock up
background. Furthermore I've given it a stylized
look – by giving it a heavily coloured look
(contrasting form the character,) with a circuit board
and a stylized glow in the background.
16. Technical Qualities
With my magazine I forgot to include a barcode
(however the barcode could be included on the
back of the magazine...) Along with this I've missing
out the price tag – if discreet or not...
On top of this, the text I've included is too scares
and quite bland – I've just used a constant font size,
font colour and font in general.
18. Technical Qualities
From the page spread I found on the internet mine
differs allot. With mine (because I wasn't a big fan of
this kind of style and layout of magazine,) I went a
different way...
Whilst I kept he columns and black text, I chose to
add a textured background to make it appear more
appealing when looked at. Because I found that the
black text struggled to contrast with background
texture I added a white glow around the text.
On the other hand similar to the example I've
spread images across the two. Pages.
20. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– It's eye-cathing and draws me in.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– The text could be easier to read.
21. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– Looks professional because the colours look like something they
would use in the show and its very well photoshopped
– The articles are written well, very little errors or spelling
mistakes
– Fonts looks doctor who
– Catchy headlines to make the reader buy the magazine
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– Articles could be made easier to read
– Maybe needs issue number, price and barcode on the front
22. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– It has nice colours
– I liked the way the characters were displayed on
the double page spread
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Don’t like doctor who
23. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I find that the text is both lacking and possible
hard to read in some places.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– The issue number isn't really necessary as it isn't
really dependent to read the magazines (in the
line) to be read in order.
24. Peer Feedback Summary
Front Cover:
• With me magazine I personally believe there should be
more text and especially of different variant as could be
seen in comparisons - as my text is too bland.
• Also, it's missing a barcode and possibly a price-tag on it.
Page spread and front cover:
• Furthermore, through out both the cover and page
spread, I felt like the text could be more readable. With
the cover I've obstructed some of the text a little bit too
much; whilst on the page spread the textures background
still doesn't contrast as much as I'd like - even with the
white glow...
