The document outlines several regulations set by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) for journalists and publications in the UK. Regulations include: obtaining consent before photographing or approaching children at school; not paying or allowing payment to minors for content unless it benefits the child; publishing only accurate and fair information; not harassing or pestering individuals; and avoiding prejudicial references to an individual's personal characteristics unless relevant to the story. The document also notes the writer will follow these standards in their work by obtaining proper consents and releases, and ensuring accuracy and avoidance of discrimination in their article and photography.
2. IPSO
• In order to publish a magazine or newspaper,
journalists must follow the rules and regulations set
by the independent press standard organisation
(IPSO).
• The purpose behind IPSO is to uphold and encourage
the most professional standards of journalism
throughout the United kingdom.
3. CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 16.
• Children must not be photographed or approached at school without the
consent of the school or person.
• Children must be able too, without restriction, to complete their time at
school.-I will make sure that, because my model is still in school education
that I do not restrict her from getting work done or attending her lessons.
• Minors must not be paid, nor should their parents or guardians, be paid for
content involving children welfare unless it is clearly within the benefit of the
child.
• The model I am using for my print production is above the age of 16 and has
signed a model release form stating that she wants to participate in the
process- I also have parental content from her parents clarifying that I am
allowed to photograph her for my magazine.
4. ACCURACY
• “the press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted
information, including pictures”.
• The press must publish accurate and fair content.
• When writing my article , I will make sure that the information I have putting
forward around the house topic, is accurate so it does not go against the
regulations.
5. HARASSMENT
• Journalist must be act in an intimidating manor, nor should they harass
or pester anybody.
• They should not continuously demand answers to questions nor should
they be persistent with their own questioning or photographing once
they have been asked to leave the premises.
• Journalists must not follow the public.
• This rule does not necessarily apply to me as I am not targeting anyone
specific, I have a model release form that states that my model has
agreed to participate within my production.
6. DISCRIMINATION
• “Details of an individual’s race, religion, sexual orientation, physical or
metal illness or disabilities must be avoided unless genuinely relevant to
the story”.
• “the press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to an
individual’s race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or to any
physical or mental illness or disability”
• My chosen model for my production is Zimbabwean, therefore to avoid
discrimination against an individuals race, I will incorporate contextual
information on My models family background, to ensure that I am
incorporating facts and figures rather than letting the audience make
opinions and assumptions.
