REGULATIONS
 In order to create and publish a magazine, journalists must
follow the following rules which are set by the IPSO.
(independent press standards organization)
 IPSO exists in order to promote and uphold the highest
professional standards of journalism in the UK
 The rules deal with different aspects
- Accuracy
- Invasion of privacy
- Harassment
- Discrimination
WHAT ARE THE RULES AND
REGULATIONS?
 Publishers must not publish items that re inaccurate,
misleading information that is distorted. This includes both
text and images
 If an image or text is identified as misleading, inaccurate or is
distortion, the press must have an appropriate apology
published.
 The press must report in a fair and accurate way
ACCURACY
 The models that I am using should be free to complete their time
at school without unnecessary intrusion.
 A child under 16 must not be interviewed or photographed on
issues involving their own or another child's welfare unless a
custodial parent or similarly responsible adult consents.
 Students must not be approached or photographed at school
without the permission of the school authorities. I am conducting
some parts of my photo shoot in school, I have also prepared a
location release for authorities to sign.
 Minors must not be paid for material involving children's welfare,
nor parents or guardians for material about their children or
wards, unless it is clearly in the child's interest.
 All the models I have chosen are ages 16 or above, which they
all agreed and signed a model release form before the start of
production. They have read all rules before signing.
USING CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 16
 journalists must not use for their own profit financial
information they receive in advance of its general publication,
nor should they pass such information to others.
 They must not buy or sell, either directly or through nominees
or agents, shares or securities about which they have written
recently or about which they intend to write in the near future.
 I must not be receiving discounts or offers from respective
stores after reporting or using their locations if mentioned in
magazine
FINANCIAL JOURNALISM
 Everyone is to be respected for his or her private and family
life, home, health and correspondents
 It is unacceptable to photograph individuals in private places
without their consent
 I have prepared location releases upon approaching the
specific locations I would like to take photos of.
 If the owners of the shops do not agree, I must not force them
to do so, and I’ll leave the premises.
PRIVACY
 Journalists must not engage in intimidation, harassment or
persistent purist
 They must not persists in questioning, telephoning
photographing and pursing individuals once they are asked to
leave their property. They must not be followed.
 This rule isn’t really relevant to my production, as I am not
targeting on a specific person for an interview, but rather on
different areas around Leicester.
HARASSMENT
 The press must avoid any prejudicial or pejorative reference to
an individuals race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation,
mental illness or disability.
 Details of a individuals race, color, religion, sexual
orientation, physical or mental illness, or disability must be
avoided unless genuine relevant to the story
 This rule is very curial to my magazine, and in fact I am trying
to promote the diversity in Leicester and to make people
proud of being from different parts of the world despite being
minorities.
