19. Introduction
• For university, I am very set on taking a film course. So far I have looked at film
production, film making and film/television courses. This is because I am very
passionate about film especially the way that they are made. I feel university will
help me develop my skills and perhaps even improve my love for film. I have not
decide to really look at film study courses as I am significantly more interested in
the production of film and television. This is because this is what I want to do as a
line of work therefore I feel the production side will benefit me much more.
20. Academic History
• My decision to choose IT for GCSE will benefit me for my future in film. This is
because this lesson gave me experience in editing as for a certain project I had to
make an advertisement video for an 80s project. This meant me picking up a basic
understanding of how to edit and how editing works. English will also help me in
the future. This is because it has taught me how to write essays and also how to
analyse different pieces of work and different products effectively. This will benefit
me when I have to study the theory side of film and also when I have to analyse
different films. Although, different techniques will be used, the same concept still
applies. Mt decision to chose history at GCSE will be beneficial. This is because it
has improved my essay writing skills will benefit me when I have to write an essay
on a product or on a topic whilst at university. At GCSE, I studied music. This was
beneficial as it allowed me to gather me some basic sound editing skills as well as
improving my confidence when being recorded as for our final exam we had to be
recorded whilst playing different types of music. This is a positive as if I ever have to
do some work in front of the camera, I will feel more confident and comfortable
whilst being recorded.
21. Current Study
• During college, I decided to study Creative Media at level 3. Choosing this course was a
very good idea as it significantly benefit me in my next steps to university. This is
because during my creative media course I have heavily concentrated on film meaning
that I have acquired many different skills in the 2 years I have been on the course.
Firstly, throughout the course my camera skills have improved. This is from frequent
camera use for either making films/trailers to taking photographs in the studio. Both of
these will have heavily developed my skills with a camera and allowed me to gain
different little techniques to creating the best possible product. As well as that, during
my course I have had to use an editing software as my different products needed to be
edited and altered. I have been using premier pro which is one of the best editing
software's there is. Whilst using this software, my editing skills have progressed
significantly. This is obviously beneficial as editing is a massive aspect of film as it can
turn a good product into a great one. Throughout the course, I have also had to use
Photoshop on a regular basis. This is a very useful software as it allows you to alter
different images. I have predominantly used Photoshop when creating posters. This
may come in use at university if I ever have to make extra products on top of my films.
22. The Future
• In the future, I would love to work in the film industry. This is because I am
obsessed with everything about films, I love to watch them and I also love how
they are made therefore I feel this line of work would be perfect for me. The course
that I am currently doing well help me with this specific career choice as I am
constantly learning new thigs about films for example, different camera skills and
my editing is constantly improving. After college, I am planning to go on and do a
film course at university. So far, I have been looking at different courses and the
ones which are interesting my are predominantly film production courses. This is
because they are very practical based courses. This is good as I feel I would be able
to pick up a variation of different skills and fits my interests more than a more
theory based course. The practical aspect of the course will make me an overall
better film maker which will hopefully help me find a good job in the film industry.
23. Outside College
• Outside of college, I have a two part time jobs. I work at a Chinese restaurant and
takeaway and also at a Turkish restaurant and bar, I work at both a few times a
week. This makes me a better candidate as it shows the university that I have
initiative and a will to work. From my jobs, I have also picked up and developed
different skills. I have learnt to work as a team cooperatively and I have also
developed my social skills. Before working, I was already a very social person
however, I feel work has developed my confidence even more. As well as that, I
have learnt to work under pressure as work can be very busy sometimes meaning I
am put under a lot of stress. This will make me a better candidate as it shows I can
work under pressure and get the job done. I also love watching films outside of
college. This will interest universities as it shows my love of film and therefore my
interest and dedication to the course.
24. Conclusion
• I want to go to university. This is because I feel it will be a catalyst to get me where
I want to be. The skills I will pick up at university will highly benefit me in later life.
This is because the course I will chose will be quite practical based therefore I will
pick up different skills and develop my current ones even more . Whilst at
university, I really want to try and develop my film skills as I want to be the best I
can be. This will help me get a good job in the film industry which I what I would
love to do. I will be a good candidate for university as when I am doing something I
love, I am a very hard working person meaning I will get all my work done and
completed to a very good standard. I am also a very social person meaning that I
will add a good positive and fun energy to the course and to the university. As well
as that, I love film meaning I will be very dedicated to the course and always willing
to learn.
