16. Academic History
• In high school I studied Media Studies as myearly GCSE which introduced a lot
of conventions of different types of media and a basic understanding of
camera angles and the planning process of films. It taught me how to
analyze films and gaveme a good understanding of audience classifications and
how films appeal to the audience, which I can ultimately apply to my own work in
the more practical based course I am doing currently. Media studies was
interesting but also frustrating because I didn't get to do much practical work.
I did half a GCSE in art which gaveme some basic drawing and painting skills
which has helped in terms of animation work.
17. Current Study
• I am currently studying Creative Media Production Level 3 which has
taught me how to use the adobe software applications. Throughout the
course so far I have learnt how to use Photoshop, Premiere Pre, Audition,
After Effect, and InDesign. I learnt a lot of techniques on this course such as
recently I learnt the basics of clay animation for my FMP and I learnt pixel
animation during a video game project. These projects were my favorite
projects so they have influenced me to pursue a university course in
animation. I have also worked on a lot of projects which use real life
recordings such as the music video which gave me experience using
a camera. This is useful as it allowed me take notice of the skills I have
already learnt and gets me used to planning for the future. In the research
sections my written work I must make bibliography for the sources I
reference which is a process which will prepare for the same process in
university essays.
18. The Future
• I am hoping to work in either the film industry or animation. In near future I
would to start making music videos for my friends who are in a band. I have
considered making light shows or heavily edited video clips and play them at my
friend’s gigs as a possible way to earn money. If I could pick any job in the film
industry I would either want to be an editor or a cinematographer. When I start
working in animation, I will probably start off by posting my animations on
YouTube because this will allow me to improve my skills and build a portfolio
whilst still being able to have a job at the same time. Then after doing that for a
few years I will look for a job in animation.
19. Outside College
Outside of college I have beenlearning how to make music using Cubase and I'm learning
to playguitar which I am hoping incorporateinto my projects at college. I also work on
making photosin photoshop for fun and I have made a few album covers for friends. I
am currently learning how to use recording software. I am focusing on the recording software
OBS studio because it is free, using recording software will allow me to track my production
process as when I am working on a computer which will be useful as it will allowme to
remember curtain techniquesI used. Outside of college I use the animationsoftware Adobe
Animate and photoshop for 2D animation,Hue animationstudiofor clay
animation, Mandelbulb 3Dfor making 3D Mandelbrotzooms. Mandelbulb 3Dis helpfulas it
allowsme a lot of controlover camera movement which a useful skill to learn. I am currently
trying to learn Blender so that I can have experience a 3D animationsoftware because there
are more career opportunities in 3D animation. Ihave recentlybeen experimenting with light
liquidshow animation.
20. Introduction
• Watching films has been my main activity for a long time and I've been
doing animation since my first year of college. My favorite directors are probably
Takeshi Miike, Aljandro Jodorowsky, David Lynch, Lars von Trier, and Dario Argento.
My favorite animators areBruce Bickford, Jake Fried, Justin Tomchuck,
Jan Švankmajer, and Shinya Tsukamoto. I would preferably like to do a course with a
lot of practical work rather just theory.
21. Conclusion
• In conclusionI think going to your university will
be a good chance to develop my skills in either
animation or film so that I am able create
animations or films comfortably and to a higher
quality. I also think that’ll enjoy living away from
home and it will allow me to become more
independent. I think will be a good candidate
because I have a passionand interest in the
subject so if I wasn’t doing a course in it I would
be learning about it at home, so I will have a
good work ethic.
