2. Production reflections
• This proforma is to record how you worked on your production
• You should complete this each week during production
• Consider all relevant areas that you covered that week
• Think about what worked/what didn’t work/how you can improve
and actions for the following sessions/weeks
3. Process – week 1
• In the first week, we began the initial plans PowerPoint. This involved
idea generation. For this, I came up with 3 different ideas: When the
sun goes down by Arctic monkeys, Ride by 21 Pilots and still take you
home by Arctic monkeys. Each song I chose and their own unique and
creative features.
• The PowerPoint also included mind maps of our ideas and
summaries. We tern had to choose which idea we wanted to use.
• This was all beneficial as it allows me to take a step back and view my
ideas. This means that when I do choose which I want to use I will
choose the correct one as I will everything right in front of me. It also
allows me to detail and advance my ideas more effectively.
4. Process – week 2
• In week 2, I finished some remaining parts of the initial plans
PowerPoint and then moved onto my research PowerPoint. This
PowerPoint included me finding 3 already successful music videos to
research. The videos I decided to research were: Cocoon by Catfish and
the bottlemen, Pompeii by Bastille and Why do you only call me when
your high By arctic Monkeys. I decided to choose this specific videos
because they all included at least one feature or technique that I was
debating to use in my own video. This was useful as it allowed me to pick
up ideas and see how other good music videos were made therefore
helping me make the bets music video possible.
• Once completing all my products I then moved onto actually
experimenting with different pot production effects and filming
techniques. I completed two different experiments. This was very useful
as it allowed me to see what techniques would, and what wouldn't work
in my final video therefore, saving significant time which could be used
to work on something else.
5. Process – week 3
• In week 3, I began my proposal. This included describing many of the
different features and targets of my video. This allowed me to analysis
my video to know exactly what I am aiming for. This is very useful as
then exactly how to create and direct my video meaning its planning
and outcome will be very good.
• After my proposal was completed I moved onto my pre production
PowerPoint. This overall included everything I needed when filming my
music video for example, a shot list, a structural breakdown, a
storyboard and all my location information. This will help me massively
when filming as it will give an exact plan of what I need to achieve
whilst filming therefore I wont need to improvise and my video should
be made to a good standard.
6. Process – week 4
• In Week 4, I carried on with my pre production to make sure every slide
was completed with as much detail as possible. This is was to make sure
my plan was as secure as possible so that when I come to filming, I will
have an exact vision and idea of what I am gong to achieve.
• During this week, I also filmed my music video. I followed my story
structure and my storyboard that I created before hand . This was to
make sure the production went smoothly and that I didn't’t have to
waste time on improvising. I also filmed at the right time in the day to
create the correct atmosphere I wanted to portray. This was later on in
the day just before it was dark. This made the video look depressing
and negative.
7. Process – week 5
• In week 5, I continued with the last bit of filming as there was still a few
sots I needed to perfect my video. After all my filming was completed I
moved onto editing and post production. During editing made my video
more clean and professional but adding colour changes and post
production effects onto my video. I decided to use the Kodak 5205 Fuji
3510 effect. This was because it portrays a sense of negativity as its
saturations levels are very low however, it also brings a sense of
professionalism to the video therefore making it look appealing to the
eye. I also decreased the videos saturation and vibrancy using an
adjustment layer. This just added to the theme of negativity in the video.
• After completing all my post production, I began with my evaluation. This
included self and peer reflection. This is very useful as it allows me to take
a step back and view my strengths and weakness in this project. This
allows me to be able to see what I can improve on for future projects and
if this specific area is a strength of mine. This will help me decide possible
future career paths.
