2. Production reflections
• This proforma is to record how you worked on your production
• You should complete this each week during production
• Consider all relevant areas that you covered that week
• Think about what worked/what didn’t work/how you can improve
and actions for the following sessions/weeks
3. Process – week 1
This week consisted mainly of me coming up with ideas for my
project, and planning how I would execute these ideas. My tutor
taught me all of the proper camera techniques, like how to use a tri-
pod, how to focus the video, and what effects I can use. They also
talked about sound effects- what would I use in my video. I was asked
to consider the story behind my video, would it have a narrative? As
well as editing- what style would I use, what effects would I be using
after the fact? How would it look? I considered all of these questions
and tips carefully when thinking of my video. I came up with a mind
map and chose what song I’d be using.
4. Process – week 2
I spent the majority of this week watching and examining as many
music videos as I could from the chosen era, in order to pick the
best choice. There are some videos that are well known to anyone
around in those times, and even some people today, and there are
other videos that aren’t as well known but they still have either the
same style that I’m looking for or I find them interesting, I did this
so that I have a clear view on what a music video made in the years
ranging from the mid 70’s to late 80’s looks and feels like- what
they wear, what props they use, what conventions they enhance,
how they dance, what they look like and who their audience is.
5. Process – week 3
I finished researching and planning, as well as coming up with a
contingency plan just in case I couldn’t film my main idea, as there
are a lot of variables. I worked on getting everything that I needed
ready, asking around for backgrounds, staff and cast. However, as
the time I had booked out for filming got closer, I realized I may not
get everything that I need, so I started working more towards my
contingency plan.
6. Process – week 4
The first weekend I booked out the camera I was unable to use it as
I just started a new job, and it took away my attention and energy.
The second weekend, I was able to record, however, a few thing
went wrong. I couldn’t film my main idea, and my contingency plan
was based mainly outside, however, the day of filming, it was
raining heavily, so I had to adjust my plans and we filmed inside
instead, going outside whenever was possible so that I could still
keep some of the main idea.
7. Process – week 5
I managed to film some footage to continue on with my original
idea, with some changes of course. I was alone, and I had to film in
the clothes I was wearing- luckily I’d decided to wear colorful
clothing that day. I filmed as much as I could on the staircases and
edited what footage I had to the song, adding colors and effects
when was appropriate. When I retrieved the footage I’d recorded
at home, I spliced some of it with the staircase to give it some
difference and to add the effect of fun .
