The outbreak of COVID-19 has already left a historical mark across every sector. While most memes allow us to laugh about the spread of the disease, many livelihoods and economies are and will be drastically affected by this outbreak.

2. WHAT IS A
VIRUS?
A virus is a small infectious agent
that replicates only inside the living
cells of an organism.
3.
4. Coronavirus
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses
that are known to cause illness ranging
from the common cold to more severe
diseases such as Middle East Respiratory
Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
What is the Novel
Coronavirus (COVID
19)?
A novel coronavirus
(COVID 19) is a new
strain of coronavirus that
has not been previously
identified in humans.
5. The Coronavirus originated
in a series of caves in the
Southern Yunnan Province in
China in bats and was then
later transferred to humans
via consumption.
6. Numerous coronaviruses, first discovered in domestic poultry in
the 1930s, cause respiratory, gastrointestinal, liver, and neurologic
diseases in animals. Only 7 coronaviruses are known to cause
disease in humans.
Four of the 7 coronaviruses most frequently cause symptoms of
the common cold. Coronaviruses 229E and OC43 cause the
common cold; the serotypes NL63 and HUK1 have also been
associated with the common cold. Rarely, severe lower
respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia, can occur,
primarily in infants, older people, and the immunocompromised.
SARS- CoV2 is a novel coronavirus
identified as the cause of coronavirus
disease 2019 (COVID-19) that began in
Wuhan, China in late 2019 and spread
worldwide.

11. China is the world’s second-largest economy and
leading trading nation, so economic fallout from
COVID-19 also threatens global growth.
12. As the world grapples with the coronavirus the
economic impact is mounting - with the
OECD warning the virus presents the biggest danger
to the global economy since the 2008 financial crisis.
13. A poll of economists by the
London School of
Economics found 51%
believed the world faces a
major recession, even if
COVID-19 kills no more
people than seasonal flu.
14. Businesses are dealing with lost
revenue and disrupted supply chains
due to China’s factory shutdowns.
Weeks after China imposed travel
restrictions on million of its people,
Italy placed quarantine measures on
its entire population, with France and
Spain imposing similar measures and
many other European countries
restricting movement and business
activity.

19. Maintain Social Distancing
Maintain at least 1-meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or
sneezing.
WHY? When someone coughs or sneezes, they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or
mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including
the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.
20. Wash your Hands Frequently
Regularly and thoroughly clean
your hands with an alcohol-
based hand rub or wash them
with soap and water.
WHY? Washing your hands
with soap and water or using
alcohol-based hand rub kills
viruses that may be on your
hands.
21. 3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and
mouth
WHY? Hands touch many surfaces
and can pick up viruses. Once
contaminated, hands can transfer the
virus to your eyes, nose or mouth.
From there, the virus can enter your
body and can make you sick.
23. CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Reaching out to people you trust is
one of the best ways to reduce
anxiety, depression, loneliness, and
boredom during social distancing,
quarantine, and isolation.
You can:
• Use the telephone
• Email
• text message
• Social Media to connect with
friends, family, and others.
• Talk “face to face” with friends
and loved ones using Skype or
FaceTime.
