All about how covid 19 affects the lungs by hijacks the cell in the alveoli, the primary symptoms , what should we do and the result of covid-19 , all are described in a brief way.
This PowerPoint helps students to consider the concept of infinity.
How covid-19 affects the lungs
1.
2. 2
For the last few months, the world has been consumed with a minute virus-
COVID 19, roughly 65-125 nm in diameter- that has been infecting and killing
the human population.
It is important to understand the transmission and the effect of COVID-19,
which has made it a pandemic across the world.
3. 3
Viruses have lived on the earth mutating and adopting for billions of years.
What is the nature of virus ?
4. 4
they neither dead nor alive, they are active inside a living thing,
Virus is powerless in the open air but rise again in an another host.

What is COVID-19 ?
COVID-19 belongs to the corona virus family. Which also include –
Spreads through the air on moisture droplets or on surfaces.
This virus affects the human through the respiratory tract.
SARS ( severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome )
MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome ).
7. 7
The primary symptoms of this infections are-
Fever Dizziness
Smell &
Taste
Dry Cough Headache
Pneumonia
Breathlessness
How Does Coronavirus Affect the Lungs –
Enters
8. 8
Eventually settles in the air sacs or alveoli, inside our lungs.
There are millions of tiny air sacs or alveoli present in our lungs.
10. 10
The virus “ hijacks “ the cells in the alveoli. In that cell they enter and use the cell
Replication machinery and begins making copies of itself,
it spreads and attack the neighboring cells until the host cell dies.
COVID-19
Unsuspecting Cell that has
Right receptor
11. 11
When the virus enters in the alveoli-
It promotes an immune response in the body inside the alveoli.
15. 15
But the neutrophiles, more than attacking the virus, also injured the alveoli
and ultimately breaking down its walls.
16. 16
The walls of the alveolus is also damaged by the COVID-19 virus. Now as the
air- sacs are damaged , two problem arises –
The debris from the damage of the wall which is plasma protein, accumulates
on the alveolus wall and thickens the lining of alveolus. As the walls gets
thicken, the transfer of oxygen to the red blood cells is become impaired .
and the body is running lack of oxygen, which cause difficulty in breathing
and ultimately leads to
Dry Cough
17. 17
And the 2nd problem arises due to the damage of the alveolus wall is, fluid rushes
from the blood vessel into the alveolus, filling it up gradually-
Pneumonia
Its much harder to Breath now….
Leads to
18. 18
As such some patients may requires ventilators
to aid breathing.
Over reaction of immune-cell
Though the body immune system tried to
destroy the virus by over production of
cytokine immune cell, but in severe cases
COVID-19
Uncontrolled Inflammation Cytokine - Strom

19. 19
Too many alveoli collapse. Now in this
situation, immune cells harms the body more
than it helps. And this is how COVID-19 turns
your own immune systems Against You.
The attack from the virus
Immune system’s
explosive response
Makes coronavirus
So DEADLY
As the damage of lungs increases
potentially, resulting in respiratory
failure and all these can leads to -
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
(ARDS)
DEAD

COVID-19 doesn't just affect the Lungs.
Heart
Kidneys
Intestinal tract
liver
Typically, older patients and the people who have
underlying medical condition such as diabetes, heart
disease, cancer, hypertension are those who are at
greater risk to recover from COVID-19, because of
their Weaker Immune Systems.
There is no specific treatments for coronavirus and investigation is
under process through out the World.
Also vaccines are currently in developed.
Symptoms can be treated through Supportive Care.
21. 21
What can you do to protect yourself from COVID-19 ?
Regular hand washing Use mask to cover your
nose, mouth and hair
Avoid anyone coughing
/ sneezing
Avoid Animals Cook Thoroughly Cover your mouth and
nose while Coughing or
Sneezing !!!
22. 22
The travel & spreading of the
virus stops & we can return back
to our normal daily life.
So that we can fight against this devastating pandemic.
