3. What exactly is a coronavirus?
Early discovered in the 1960s, the name of this virus
comes from the crown-like spikes that it has its surface.
The word corona came from the Latin word “Crown.”
Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that infect
animals and mammals like bats, pigs. Scientists call them
zoonotic because they get a transfer from animals to
humans.
In early December 2019, an outbreak of coronavirus
disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by a novel severe acute
respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2),
occurred in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China.
4. Causes for infection from coronavirus
o Consumption of wildlife
foods such as bats
o Animal pathogens
o Transmission
5. Signs and Symptoms of the Infection
HIGH FEVER
The body
temperature can
exceed 37.3
Celsius degrees or
99 Fahrenheit
degrees
TIREDNESS
The body feels
completely tired
and without energy
to perform normal
tasks
DRY COUGH
Irritation and
constant coughing
without expelling any
mucus
6. PREVENTION & Precaution of Corona Pandemic
Treatments
Isolation and supportive care including
oxygen therapy, fluid management, and
antibiotics treatment
Vaccination
COVID-19 is clearly a serious disease of
international concern.
7. METHODS OF PREVENTION
HANDS
Wash your hands
with an alcohol-based
sanitizer or with soap
and water

8. a) Practice Social Distancing:
Avoid gatherings such as melas, haats, gatherings in religious places,
social functions etc.
Maintain a safe distance of at least one Metre between you and other
people when in public places, especially if they are having symptoms
such as cough, fever etc. to avoid direct droplet contact.
Stay at home as much as possible.
Avoid physical contact like handshakes, hand holding or hugs.
Avoid touching surfaces such as table tops, chairs, door handles etc.
b) Practice good hygiene
Wash your hands frequently using soap and water: (Wang C., Horby P.W.,
Hayden F.G)
How to avoid getting COVID-19 or spreading it?
10. Covid 19 in “Risk Society”
• Today, social risks have become part of our daily lives as human
beings.
• The German sociologist Ulrich Beck defined them as the
systematic way of dealing with the perils and insecurities
resulting from modernization.
• He attributed this issue to a broad change, which he called
“reflexive modernization”, where the unintended and
unpredictable impacts of modern life on modernity take
place.(Mansouri Fardin)
• In the risk society, the people’s concerns are shifted from natural
disasters to the perils resulting from human activities, which are
often global and widespread (Turner 2002).
11. CONCLUSION
•The World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus outbreak “a
public health emergency of international concern” on January 30.
• On March 11, 2020 after sustained spread of the disease outside of China, the
World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 epidemic a pandemic.
Public health measures like ones implemented in China and now around the
world, will hopefully blunt the spread of the virus while treatments and a
vaccine are developed to stop it.
