The Endocrine System: How Glands and Hormones Control Your Body
1.
2. • WHAT IS ENDOCRINE SYSTEM?
• Body - made up-many cells, organs, systems.
• Many chemical processes happening in body
to perform functions of cells and organs.
• Endocrine system affects every functions of
our body : growth and development, our
mood, metabolism, reproduction etc.
3. • ORGANS OF ENDOCRINE SYSTEM:
• Endocrine system is made of Glands and Hormones.
• Gland : it is a group of cells that produces and
release chemicals in body.
• Glands take raw material from blood, process on
them and make hormones, enzymes etc and release it
them in body where they are required.
• Two types of glands : Exocrine and Endocrine.
4. • Exocrine glands :
1. Exocrine glands have
ducts.
2. Secreted products of
exocrine glands are
called enzymes,
sebum etc.
• Endocrine glands :
1. Endocrine glands do
not have ducts.
2. Secreted products
of endocrine glands
are called hormones.
5. • Exocrine glands :
3. Various secretions of
exocrine glands are
released or provided to
target organ by a duct
or released on surface
by ducts.
4. Ex. Salivary glands
• Endocrine glands :
3. Endocrine glands
release their hormones
directly in blood
stream, so eventually it
will reach to target
organs and work
4. Ex. Thyroid gland
6. :: Exocrine gland :: :: Endocrine gland ::
Duct-direct organ No Duct- direct blood
7. • Exocrine Glands in body :
1. Lacrimal glands : both eyes, produce tears and send
via duct in eyes.
2. Mammary glands : Produce breast milk and send out
via duct.
3. Sweat glands : produce sweat and send out surface of
skin via perspiration.
4. Salivary glands : produce salvia and pour in mouth
while mastication.
5. Exocrine Pancreas : secrete Pancreatic juice and
send in duodenum via duct for digestion.
6. Exocrine liver: secrete bile, a yellowish fluid, send in
duodenum via duct for digestion.
8. 1. Pineal gland
2. Pituitary gland
3. Thyroid gland
4. Para-thyropid gland
5. Thymus gland
6. Adrenal glands
7. Pancreas
8. Ovaries in female
and Testicles in
male

9. • What is a Hormone?
• A hormone is a chemical substance -produce by
the glands. They are also called chemical
messengers of body.
• They travel in blood and reach to target cells and
perform desired work.
• These hormones affects almost each and every
process of our body.
