2. Taking of Pelham
The typography and font
used for the masthead of
the film is really eye
catching, it contrasts really
well with the black
background. The makers
made is so that there’s
brush marks coming out of
the text possibly to relate
to the film like speed.
On top of the masthead we
see 2 names in bold, these
are probably the main
protagonists or famous
people that have worked in
other film that may get
people to watch it.
The credits of the film are
shown at the bottom of the
page. It includes names of
actors/actresses and
companies that
collaborated to make the
film. The credits are clearly
shown due to the letters
being coloured in white
and the background being
white.
The date of release is
presented at the bottom
‘June 2009’ but it doesn’t
show what day it’s
released.
Finally the main image at
the top probably show who
the main characters are.
You can see the lighting is
pretty dark. On the right
side of Denzel's face we
see chiaroscuro lighting.
The images of them the 2
characters seem to have
filters so I’m guessing the
images were probably
edited in Photoshop.
Underneath the masthead
we see an image of a train
in a subway and a picture
of Manhattan. This can
refer to where the film is
going to take place.
3. Adulthood
The text of the masthead is
pretty unusual. The
typography presents words
in upper case and lower
case. This is pretty
different, I’ve never seen
another poster with this
style. Not only is it
different, it contrast pretty
well with background as it
stands out.
At the top of the page it
shows reviews of the film
like The Mirror. By people
seeing that popular
newspapers/people are
giving this film high ratings
it can persuade them to
watch it as it’s probably a
good film.
The credits are placed at
the bottom of the page and
are clearly shown in white
text, it shows the logo of
companies that created the
film and names of actors.
The main image shows a
group of young adults posing
looking towards the camera.
These are probably the main
characters that take part in
the film. The character at the
front has a tracksuit on and
his hood up and is in front of
everyone else. The outfits the
casts are wearing can relate
the mise-en-scene of an
urban drama. On the floor we
see a metal baseball bat
which could show violence or
a weapon that someone uses
in throughout the film.
The release date is placed at
the bottom with a date so the
audience will know exactly
when the film comes out.
Under this it shows a number
that the audience can text for
them to download a free
trailer. This will allow the film
to spread through word of
mouth for it to gain more
recognition. There’s website
on the poster too so that the
viewers can search the film
and see if there’s anything
new in relation with the film
like new teasers, posters, etc.
4. The Town
The colour scheme used is
really good, the red text is
used to make the main
part of the poster to stand
out like what it’s called,
when it comes out and the
slogan. The names of the
actors/actresses are
written in a light blue that’s
clearly shown in the centre
of the page. These are
probably the names of the
people that take a main
role in the film.
The main image shows 2
people in a nun outfits with
guns with an armoured van
in the background. This
shows mise-en-scene of
objects and costumes
used in heist films. The
image could suggest a
robbery and the genre of
the film – action/crime
Like all the previous
posters the credits are
clearly shown at the
bottom in white text. It
shows the director,
production companies,
the BBFC, etc. Right
under it, the release date
is written in bold red text
which is really eye
catching as is contrasts
really well from the black
background and with the
white text from the
credits.
As well as the main
image, the poster
includes sub images of
characters that will
probably take part in the
film.
The typography of the
masthead isn’t too
complex but it is really
eye catching. The word
‘The’ is engraved in the
word ‘Town’.
5. The Purge
The purge anarchy is a great example of a film that created a range of
posters all to advertise the same film. They use different characters to
change the main image and this changes each strapline for the poster
to correspond with the image.
The poster with the faces doesn’t include the BBFC or a date or release
so I’m guessing this is more of a teaser trailer so that people get excited
to see the film.
The poster in the top right is more of an informative poster , it includes
the date of release so the audience knows when it comes out, a website
address so people can see new content released for the film and it
shows the social media the film is supported by.
The creators also made a billboard poster to put on highways or
motorways. You see that there isn’t a lot of writing, only what the film is
called and when it comes out. This is because people are driving down
a road and they don’t have a lot of time to read a load of words as it can
cause an accident or they wont have enough time to read it all.
