This is the a film poster that I have chosen to analyse.

Director – Tom McCarthy

Budget - $4million
The reason that I have chosen to use this film to analyse is
firstly that it the same genre as our film which is
psychological drama. Secondly the look of the poster has
simulates like ours where it features a character that is all by
themselves and is sitting on a bench just watching the world
go by.

3. The pictures at the top of the poster
shows small action shots of what will be
featured in the film. It shows on the
poster the main character where there is
many different people that look like
they come together. There is also a
theme developing that the uses of the
bongo drums could suggest that the
theme of using them have brought
different communities together. As
without that it wouldn’t happened.
On this poster there is shown of awards
which is a film that has won at festivals
and has been critical success. This has
included the Toronto film festival which
is one of the main events in the industry
of film. Also was an opening film at the
Ghent film festival in 2008. This has
been included on the poster to show to
an audience that the film is popular and
has attracted fame and awards from the
story and the characters which will then
draw in a audience if critics say that the
film are good.
On the middle of the poster there is the
title of the film in a dark brown colour
with simple bold Arial text. This shows
that the film is focusing more on the
Drama showing that the text of the film
isn’t trying to distract from the picture
which on the poster they focus more
on.
On the poster they have used star
power to try and attract the film with
the use of showing that the director of
the film has done previous films that the
audience may have seen before. This
can be used to show an audience that
may have watched the films that are
displayed. So if they have watched these
films it will attract that audience as well.
There is on the poster the main
character that features in the film and it
shows him on a red bench with a bongo
drum. This can show the theme of what
the film will focus on. For example the
title of the film is The Visitor which
means that the man below could have
come somewhere else and is lonely.
While he focuses on his bongo and it
him and the music.
On the bottom of the poster there is the
normal small print that has been
included. This includes the main cast,
directors and writer and crew in the film.
This is used on a film poster to show
that who has starred and on the film.
This can be to attract an audience who
may recognise a actor/actress. While it
also give credit to the people that have
took time to make and star in the film.

4. TAXI DRIVER
This is the second film poster that I have chosen to analyse.
Film – Taxi Driver

Director – Martin Scorsese

Budget - $1.3million
The reason that I have chosen this film is that on the poster
there is the focus on the one character which is the taxi
driver. He looks like he is got a worried expression on his
face that shows there is an issue with the character. Also
that the character is located in the big city which are
character will also be set in a city and will be the little one
that is in the city.

5. The main picture of the poster is the
main character of the film who is the
taxi driver. It also backs that up with the
taxi car which is the main theme of the
fl. The colours that are shown on the
picture are very dark blacks and greys .
There is the hint of yellow from the taxi.
What this shows is the theme of the film
will feature drama of events that could
happen. Also the expression on the taxi
driver shows him focusing in something
that in the other direction which could
show a distress from the character.
The title of the film shows it in army
style font with the colour red. This could
symbolise that there is going to be
danger for the character as also could
show blood and crime that could take
place in the film.
On the bottom of the poster there is the
other stars in the film and also showing
who has made the film including the
writers and directors. On the text size
there is bigger clear writing to show the
stars that are in the film. This is to show
the audience that if they have watched
films with these stars in they will relate
and then go and see the film.
Shown on the poster is the age rating
that the film has been given by the
motion picture association of America
which has given the film a restricted
viewing. Which means no one under 17
can watch the film. This can show there
will be unapportiate and contain adult
content not to be seen by younger
ages. This means that the age
demographic is for over 18’s and cuts a
huge amount of the young age from
watching the film.
The film on the bottom right hand
corner there is the distribution which is
Columba pictures. This can be shown on
a posters which will relate so they can
see that it is a respected film from a
good distributor.
