3. Previous credits: The use of previous credits is to give the reader an idea of what kind of film it
might be as well as what sort of target audience it will have, as it is telling you what previously
the author has written. In this case they are the same person that wrote The Twilight saga so
you could say that the audience for this film would be teenage girls.
Main image: The main image is of the three characters but specifically the female character.
By placing the female protagonist in the foreground it makes her the main focus of the poster
which implies to the viewer that she is the main character of the film, which in this case she is,
it also implies that the two males are weaker of not as important in this film as they are a part
of the secondary image which goes again the stereotype of males being the stronger
characters and females needing saving in moving pictures.
Secondary image: The secondary image on this poster gives you more of an idea about where the
film is set, it shows a desert looking terrain . Deserts are usually vast barren land that hasn’t got
much activity to it, this could imply that the film is a action and adventure film where the world is at
risk and the protagonist must save it from its barrenness. On the right side of the poster the is a
circle of light, this could imply that the film doesn’t end badly as there is a ‘glimpse of hope’ in the
darkness. Having the two male characters in the secondary image shows them as supporting
characters to the protagonist, meaning they are most likely on her side and help her on her quest
whatever it is.
Billing: The billing on this poster tells you who the director is, they have put his name
in bold this makes the lettering more eye-catching and memorable to the viewer as it
is different to the rest of the typography. They probably chose to put the billing in
white as against a black background white is a prominent and stand out colour.
4. Title: The title for this film is situated centre of the poster at the bottom, this again highlights the
importance of the main image of the protagonist (female character) but, also by situating it in the lower
quarter it is implying that it is a dark film or that there is tragedy as the title is one of the most important
conventions and it is lower and lower has connotations of bad ,sad and danger. The title has been given a
metallic finish and silver metal has many different symbolic meanings including: Purity ,Clarity, Focus,
Persistence and Strength which for this film is very fitting as it is about the protagonist going to any lengths
to save the people she loves.
Tagline: A tagline is used to draw in the attention of the reader and leave them wanting to see the film, it is
a short bit of information that gives a way a tiny part of the film but enough to keep the viewer interested.
This poster’s tagline is three short sentences which all that start with the same word: Choose. By repeating
this word that the start of each sub-sentence it empowers it, implying that the film is about the choices
made by the main character and that each decision influences the next step as the word starts each
sentence. ‘believe. Fight. love;.’ are all again have very powerful and emotional connotations behind them
so the tagline would provoke certain emotions from the readers which would make them want to see or
know what happens next and would watch the film.
Credits: The credits are situated right at the bottom of the poster, the typography is slim and hard to read
almost as if they are there but only because they have to be, not to be read implying they are not the most
important thing on the poster – the location on the poster also suggests this as well as the size of the
typography.
Company logo: The company logo is tiny and in the bottom right hand corner, the
positioning and the size implies that to the creators the logo is not very important to the
film however it is big enough to be seen meaning if someone was to glance at the poster it
is likely they would see it and the company logo would be seen and possibly remembered.
5. Colour palette: The colours on this poster range from white to blue to brown to black so has
a wide range on its palette, the main colours are dark or gloomy for example the blacks and
browns this implies that the film is not a happy film and that there is an element of darkness
within the storyline. The blue on the title implies extra terrestrial activity that the film may
have something to do with aliens or modern/new technologies.
Intertextual references: By adding intertextual information to the bottom of the poster it
will allow the viewer of the poster to be able to easily find out more information on the film as
they just have to follow the hashtag or the Facebook link, they are commonly used
websites/apps so the likelihood that the majority of their demographic would be able to
recognise the logos and find the information they needed.
