This document analyzes the conventional elements of three movie magazine covers. It describes the location of elements like the masthead, cover lines, images, dates, barcodes and color schemes. For each magazine cover, it explains how these elements provide information about the featured films and are intended to attract audiences. The elements analyzed include descriptions of characters, film titles, genres and tones that are conveyed through color choices and images.
2. Conventional Elements – Magazine 1
• The masthead is located at the top of the magazine.
This is usually where most magazine mastheads are
located.
• The main cover line is linked to the title of the film, which
gives further information about the film.
• The image in the magazine is telling you more about the
movie, in this case it is a normal looking character that is
also the Joker.
• Normally the barcode is at the bottom left but in this
case it is in a place where you normally wouldn’t find it.
• The date of this magazine is located in between the
‘Empire’ title. It is written fairly small because the date is
not relevant for people to look at or to read.
• The colour scheme is green and grey. Green conveys a
new beginning and growth. This relates to the image
since the Joker seems like a new chapter for the
character. The colour grey conveys some negative
connotations but overall it conveys balance. This is
telling the audience more about the film as the actor
might be wanting to find a balance between the two
characters.

title. The image shows seriousness which relates
to the title ‘FAST X’.
• The colour scheme of the magazine is pink and
black. The colour pink represents a sense of
romance, this indicates that there will be romance
in the film. The colour pink also represents
playful, this makes the audience think about all
different types of scenarios that could happen in
the film. The colour black stands for mystery and
fear, so this makes this film very eye catching for
people.

written really tiny since the date is not the main
priority for people to read.

blue. Blue is the colour of the ocean and under the
