2. Saw
• The main image on the poster suggests that
the film is a gory horror film. The foot is
dirty suggesting that the person who owned
this foot was in hard, dirty conditions before
it removed from the body. Furthermore, as
it is decaying, you could suggest that the
film goes on for a period of time as it looks
like the foot has been left for a while.
• The white background makes all of the
features of the poster stand out however
the serrated edge at the top of the poster
links with the name of the film, saw. This
also suggests that the foot was cut off with a
saw.
• The catchphrase of the film is small to
ensure that it is not the first thing seen
however it shows horror and also like the
film is about a game as it says ‘Every puzzle
has it’s pieces’.
• The title is in black so that it clearly stands
out against the white background and also
the foot.
3. Shutter
• The main photo of the poster is a
woman screaming with photos within
making up the face. This links with the
title shutter but also shows horror as
the face looked scared.
• Showing the audience what other films
have been made by the producers of
shutter encourages the reader to watch
the film as they know that the films that
they have referenced are good and
succeeded.
• Having the name of the title in the
bottom right hand corner doesn’t
attract attention away from the main
photo. There is also a lens flare behind
the title suggesting that the film is
about photos and cameras.
• The background of the poster looks
worn and old and like it has been folded
suggesting there is history within the
film but also connotes horror.
4. The Last Exorcism
• The main figure within the photo is
placed in the center looking down on the
audience. This makes it seem as this
figure has power. The background of the
photo is also dirty suggesting that the
film is situated in an unclean place
where most horror films are set
• The name of the film is at the bottom, in
the center of the photo to ensure that
the reader notices that second.
• The sub headings such as the names of
the writers are in a dark red to contrast
the background and stand out but not
draw attention away from the main
photos and writing but maybe also to
• The catchphrase of the film is in the
center in smaller writing than the title.
This ensures that the audience notices it
after the title.
