• Structures and techniques of TV advertising
– It’s been put together by it being set in the library where there’s a boy with loads of work to do then a chicken
storms in saying wakey, wakey which then obviously wakes the kid up then recommends the drink Irn Bru to
him and describing it to him that will wake him up and make him learn longer, to then the library lady comes in
and says shush to then the chicken responds with humour which makes the advert funny to watch than it just
being a person in a chicken suit.
– Most of the shots where set in long distance to see the setting of the location they were in then went to mid
shot to get the face expressions and to see the costumes they were wearing so we knew who they were meant
to be playing.
– The editing at the beginning it shows the location then slowly starts to zoom into the kid sat at a desk falling
asleep to then stop to then let the chicken come in then zoom into the kid reaction to it then in the chickens
face and keeps switches to each other then the library lady.
– Theses decisions have been made because the audience watching will see what’s happening
easily and get to feel like they were there when it happened by where the camera was placed.
• Factors of Persuasion
– The product has tried to sell the product to the audience by it targeting students, as its located
is in a library so by the chicken coming in and saying it helps you concentrate when studying
will influence the students to go buy the drink. Also because there’s a chicken in the advert it
makes it funny so it’s a comedy and humorous.
• Styles of advertising
– The style of advertisement that has been used is comedy and humour along with reward
power - the product promises some positive benefit. I feel that it will influence people to
buy the product because the advert is set in a library so based on students that are studying
which is good if they want to stay focused.
My Video
• Structures and techniques of TV advertising
– My video was put together by a group of 4 and a camera. It was located in college
as our video was about a school. The shots follow each other by them being in
the same location and when we finish one bit, we made sure we were in the
same position so it flew better then it being. The editing techniques I used
Premiere Pro, mainly used the razor tool to remove the parts I didn’t want or
there was no need for them. Theses decisions were made because I felt it would
have been strange to keep the parts that didn’t make sense in the video. Also
with the location being in college the decision was made because of what we
came up with it made sense to be set in the college.
• Factors of Persuasion
– I feel that my video will influence people to buy the product as its set in a college
and has students the same age as its targeted to.
• Styles of advertising
– The style of advertisement that has been used is comedy & humour by it having
this it makes people remember them along with it having students in the video,
other students want it to happen to them so it might influence them to go buy
the drink.
Real Advergame
• Structures and techniques of advergames
– With the real advergame its very similar to mine as its got to do with blocks and sliding
them to block the puzzle to the next level. It’s been put together by it being in a block
with then smaller blocks shaped in rectangles for someone who wants to play it to swipe
to get to the next level. As you can see in he image above that there's a red block which
is the pain block to move to get through all the other blocks. What's stopping the red
block to get through are the blocks as you need to get it thought the cap to reach the
next level so you have to think what will help to the rectangle get past them all. Theses
decisions have been made to trick you =r mind so when playing it keeps to attached to it
as it challenges you and can frustrate you as you can get passed a level or when you do
reach I you want to do more levels as its addicting.
• Factors of Persuasion
– The products have made us buy the product as it gets addicted to play so you keep
playing it so more people will be interested in to buy the product as its fun to play.
• Styles of advertising
– The type of advertising that has been used is that they show a clip of it being super easy
and looks fun to play then as you start playing it gets harder and harder to play but really
addicted as it’s the type of game that makes you want to keep playing even when it gets
difficult.
My Advergame
• Structures and techniques of advergames
– My advergame was put together on Photoshop I wanted my game to be different by it
no being the type where you have to run for objects or jump over things so I thought I
would do something with blocks that came out ok. I made theses decision as its
different and wanted to experiment with something new than making something that I
already made in the past. I put images at the end to make it look like an actual game and
so they know when they have completed it so I had a person holding the Irn Bru drink in
its hand. I also went on Premiere Pro to add more to it like a loading screen and a menu,
game over screen to make it look more realistic than it just being the advergame. I found
with the Photoshop and premiere pro to both work well didn’t have many problems
with either of the which was good when doing the projects.
• Factors of Persuasion
– My product has made me or anyone buy it as it’s a an addicted game to play as you
play it, it gets harder an harder so you want to play more so you can complete it to
reach other levels.
• Styles of advertising
– The style of advertising that has been used is that they show easy clips lf the game as it
will make you think its fairly easy then when you download the game you then come to
realise the higher you get in the game the harder it becomes and that’s how it becomes
addicted.
Video Comparison
• Compare each of your products to the similar professional advert
– The similarities between theses to adverts are that they’re both set in a school. The real
advert is located in a library where mine is in a classroom but they are both in learning
locations. another similarity is that in the real advert the library lady is strict telling them to
shush and in my advert the teacher is against drinking so they both have rules to be quiet and
quietness. A difference between them both is that the real advert has a chicken shouting
wakey wakey , where my advert has a teacher and some students in a lesson and one is
drinking an Irn Bru where in the advert the chicken is waking up the student that is falling
asleep and recommends the drink Irn Bru for him to keep him awake.
• With my advert i feel that it has some type of interest to it but because its not professional, unlike
the real advert where it has an impressive set up and character like the chicken barging in where i
couldn't really do that with my advert as it was limited on time and space as it was in college so
couldn't do a lot in that location. Where that advert was specifically made for Irn Bru so they took
time and thought about it more where we kind of went along with it to make it look like an advert
for Irn Bru.
• The techniques I used to produce it is by using a camera and on Premiere Pro. I made the advert by
using the camera to film the clips we needed to make to then move onto Premiere to then transfer
them over to start editing them. I did this by using the razor tool to cut the parts i either didn't
need or were too long of a pause so made them shorter to make it flow well altogether with the
rest of the advert.
• I didn't really find it that difficult as i had to do something similar last year so i had an idea of what i
had to do. However even if i didn't know what i was doing i would of founded it easy as you get the
hang of fairly quickly. The strengths of the advert was that i feel that the clips that we shot and
then added music and song in the background made it less quiet and boring so i feel that made it
better. However the weaknesses are that i feel that because it was our first advert to film and we
aren’t actors, some parts were a bit awkward where there’s some quiet bits and not really knowing
what to do for example when it came to editing i had to cut out some laughing when they had to
put an accent on but i feel that it went ok. If i could go back and change/redo then i would maybe
try and make things less awkward. Also i feel that when filming the clips then ending them then
doing the next clip they aren’t in the same position so i would go back and try get the same
position as when putting all the clips together you can tell that we moved around so it looks jumpy
where it should be smooth.
•
Advergame Comparison
• Compare each of your products to the similar professional advert
– The similarities to the real game and my game is that they are both block games where you have to move
them to get thought the gap to get to the next level, but there are also other blocks that you need to move
for the coloured block to get past. The differences are between them both are that the real one has more
details to them which mine doesn’t as I didn’t know how to do that at the time until the end when I cam to
export it so I would add that next time.
– With the real one I feel that what interesting with it is that it actually looks like its made out of wood as it
has more detail to it which is also a difference to mine. Where you can see with mine its very 2D which
makes it look kind of simple and boring so I would change that if I could do it again. I find the real one looks
better in looks as it looks more realistic where mine has a bland look to it which makes it look dull to look at.
REAL MINE
– The techniques I used to produce it is in Photoshop I made the layout by using
the equipment on Photoshop then used premiere pro as well by putting all
my parts together as when I was making it in Photoshop I made it in parts as I
could see all the parts separately so when it came to putting it together I
founded it easier to use premiere pro to put all the parts together and that’s
when I thought it didn’t really look like a game as it did have a menu, loading
and game over slide to make it look more like you’re playing it.
– The strengths to my own advergame is that I feel that it looks like a game from
the layout of it, I also think that it flows well when its playing it altogether. The
weaknesses are that I feel that it looks easy however because its not a real
game if it was I would of tried of made it harder but I wanted to just get the
point over of the game. I also dot like that it hasn’t got any writing on it so it
looks like I forgot to write on it or it just looks dull.

Editor's Notes

  1. Reference the technical qualities of your advert compared to the professional one (does yours show off any interesting/visual impressive skills)? What techniques did you use to produce it? What was difficult/complicated to do? What are the strengths and weaknesses of your own advert? How would you change your advert if you could do so?
