2. Research Title
SCREENING OF B&R LINE OF DEVELOPING HYBRID AGAINST
HEAD ROT DISEASE
Objectives:
To maintain the genetic stock for their utilization in
synthesis of new sunflower hybrids.
To test the performance of newly developed sunflower
hybrid.

3. IMPORTANCE OF SUNFLOWER
• 2nd most important oilseed crop
• 17 species cultivated worldwide
• Pakistan
• Production: 40% of total consumption
• Import cost for 60% is Rs. 23020 million

•Fertilizer 148:99:62N.P.K kg/hectare
•Sowing date 6/2/2019
•Inoculation of disease was done by head injury
method at flowering on head.

8. Plan of work “in-vivo”
12/17/2020
Inoculation of head rot disease will be done by Bit
inoculation Method at flowering stage.
Data will be recorded on the basis of 0-9 rating scale
observing the disease density on the sunflower heads.
Inserted Inoculum moisturing the cotton Watering of cotton after 24 hours
9. DATA COLLECTION
• After 12-15 days at maturity the data was collected on the
basis of disease/healthy plants.
• %age of disease was observed by the formula.

10. Results and Discussions
Disease rating Scale for estimation of head rot of sunflower
12/17/2020 10
Score Conditions Remarks
0 No disease Immune
1 1% or less are head rotten Highly Resistant
3 1-10% head rotten Resistant
5 11-25% head rotten Moderately Resistant
7 26-50%head rotten Susceptible
9 51% or above head rotten Highly susceptible
